Should I be Happy or Sad

I was paid up and good to go but then my wife developed a work conflict for my Freedom sailing in November. I moved my reservation over to the Mariner of the Seas in December and got a balcony on the Hump for same money I spent for a promenade on the Freedom.

I can be happy because I have a better room, probably less crowded in concierge lounge (diamond status) and the fact RCCL really worked with me instead of dinging me for extra change fees. Yet I am sad because I am cruising a month later and this is actually the 2cnd time I have missed a chance to sail on the Freedom.

Id be happy ...you have a hump (everyone loves the hump:p and not every one gets the hump;) )

You are sailing a month later, so the excietment of 'getting ready to go on the cruise' and the 'Im going on this cruise' gets to last longer...and I personally enjoy the "Im going on a cruise" much better than the day after you get off ship and you have to think "Oh, my cruise is over" ("-time to book another one"):D

the freedom will be around for awhile, so i wouldnt be 2 upset. heck, i would wait a lil bit until the prices go down a bit overall.

 

just be happy your cruising, and not cancelling. a bad week at sea beats a good week at work anytime...besides...the mariner is a lovely ship, you will definately enjoy her....

Thanks , by the way its virtually the same itenerary except Mariner goes to Ochos Rios instead of Montego Bay Jamaica. Hope your right Parrot, I have never been "humped" before, the only reason I chose it is because my fellow CCers seem to think its a better cabin. I would like to know if anyone that has sailed both ships thinks there is an overwhelming difference?

I think I'd be happy about the change. I loved Mariner, and love P'Can, so leaving from there instead of Miami would be a happy thing for me.

Wraithe, I was on the Forrestal- You know the ship no one wanted to be on and the one famous for bootcamp fire safety training films. I was interior communications or IC for short. E division snipe not the airwing passenger type.

Freedom is a lot of hype IMO. Great ship, lots of nice new features, but still a lot of hype. I don't think you should be disappointed.

I had to change from Radiance in Nov. to Mariner Dec 10th due to DH work conflict...This will be our 3rd time doing Eastern on Mariner, but the best part is we got a visit from the Upgrade Fairy and are in a Grand Suite on deck 10 so good things do happen...I will be sure to leave you some cookies at the Cafe Promenade:D ...The Mariner will not disappoint you...Later, Jill:cool:

One other question for ya...exactly how many of those bottles of champagne have you been give from RCCL during the welcome back platinum diamond party? My last cruise the gal that received the gift had 52 credits yet she looked to be in her 30's.... must have been a travel agent....

Hi Rolloman - I have sailed both ships. To me, the biggest differences are: 1) the overall size of FOS; 2) Flowrider; 3) H20Zone; 4)longer Promenade with different stores; 5) boxing ring instead of hot tub in Ship Shape Center; 6) juice bar; 7) smaller Solarium (with hammocks); 8) no Peek a Boo bridge. So in short, I think it's the first 3 that are most noticable.

 

As far as the # of bottles of champagne I've received at the Welcome Back party, that would be a big ZERO. I cruise with a good friend how has a lot more cruises and ALWAYS wins! But he doesn't drink so I still benefit. :D . I am not a TA BTW..

Freedom can wait. You did great getting a hump on Mariner for the price of an inside (albeit a Promenade inside). Ocho Rios is a better port than MoBay IMHO. And, as previously mentioned, your wife still gets to go. All-in-all, not bad at all :).

Yep, I remember the Forrest-fire tapes from boot camp. IC was still a rate when I joined, they merged into E-div for nukes, and became one of the many ET's in coner land, all the radiomen, nav-ET's, IC-divvers, and Quartermasters merged into one giant forward ET div on subs. Nice to chat with you, and you are lucky living in FL, not just because of the ports. Living here in the Socialist Republic or Pennsylvaniastan reminds me every day how much I want to be back down in FL.

My brother was a career Navy man and was on the Forrestal when the tragic fire hit her. USS Forrestal The Tragic Fire - July 29, 1967

He lost 9 of his men in that fire. It took us 3 days to hear from him that he was alright. I haven't heard that name in a long time.

 

As for your cruise, be happy. It gives you an excuse to book another on the Freedom.;)

Yes Alexis that was a sad day for USN, I am glad your brother was one of the lucky ones. The "FID" was a great ship and I have plenty of memories sailing the high seas on her.
