katstoy Posted September 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2006 And for those of us with severe cases of OCD: The Platinum package includes everything from the Gold plus: Argyle Brut Sparkling - Oregon Badger Mountain Organic Chardonnay - Washington State Chateau St. Michelle Johannesburg Riesling - Washington State (really) Beringer White Zinfandel - California Robert Mondavi Private Selection Merlot - California Faustino VII Rioja - Spain Red Zinfandel - Cline - California The Diamond Package includes everything from the Gold and Platinum plus: Meridian Vineyards Chardonnay - California Arboleda Carmenere - Chile Beringer's Founder's Estate Pinot Noir - California Rosemount Shiraz - Australia For my tastes I stick with the platinum for the sole reason that I like the Reisling. My last cruise also had an Asti Spumanti on the Platinum list as well.

katstoy Posted September 22, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2006 As Princess devotees, we are taking our first Royal Caribbean Cruise in November and thinking of ordering a wine package. On Princess, if you only drink half of the bottle, it is kept and brought out the next night. Does RCI do the same? Yes. On my five day cruise there was a five bottle and three bottle option. Since I was the only drinker I opted for the 3 bottle. Drank the first bottle between night one and two; the second between nights three and four; and shared the third with a new friend on the last night. I believe you can also take what's left in the bottle to your room and if you finish a bottle and want to uncork another in the same night you may. On my upcoming 7 night adventure I plan on ordering a 7 bottle plan with the intent to take the unfinished portion back to my room for use on the balcony either later that evening or the following afternoon! moofus Posted September 22, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 22, 2006 Hi I just came off a 7 day Ak trip I drink wine DH doesn't I bought the 7 day package, and intended to share with our table mates, if they drank. It so happens that they also had the wine package... I had way too much wine. I did have them open a bottle of white for appetizers and a bottle of red for dinner oone night. Also they can send the remainder to Chops or Portifinos, if you request it. I asked for my opened bottle while at Portifinos, and they said they would have to go retrieve it(?) so I just ordered another from the wine package and took the rest of it up to the cabin. On the last night I had 2 half full bottles and had to order my last bottle. Wanted champagne, but we had late seating and didn't think i wanted to get in to the champagne at 9:00 PM after cocktails. So I ordered the last bottle and drank what I wanted. Then we all took our left over wine to our suite and proceeded to have aparty for an hour or so. It was just delightful. It was so nice to have a great table, and we didn;t know any of these people before the cruise. Next cruise, I'll just buy the 5 day package and if I need to buy another ala carte the last night, I will.
gambler Posted October 3, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Last cruise, we had a half bottle left the last night. Brought it back to the room and offered it to our room steward, figured he would "save it for later", wrong, he grabbed two glasses and his buddy and had a drink. It was nice to see them enjoy it. KarinaGW Posted October 3, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Just came back from the Explorer 9-Nighter and bought the 12-bottle package. heh. You are not limited to one bottle at dinner, there was the one night where he wanted white and I wanted red. We each drank half a bottle. The next night was Portofino's where we ordered a different bottle of red. When we returned to the dining room, there were our two half bottles waiting for us. Even for two wine drinkers, the 12 bottle pkg may have been a little ambitious especially as the Mystery Dinner the first night totally plied us with free wine and champagne thereby eliminating a need for one of our bottles that night. However, on two days we ordered wine with lunch in Windjammer....now there was hilarity...apparently noone orders wine with lunch there and each time was a brand new experience for someone. We still wound up with one extra bottle the final night so we ordered champagne to come out with dessert and the whole table shared it out. This is likely because the crew is not supposed to have their own booze in the staff area and they cold have got in trouble for taking it below. I'm glad they got to enjoy it. blaneyliss Posted October 27, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Is there no way to buy the packages ahead of time? I really wanted to surprise my DH with the wine at dinner- kind of hard to do if I have to go sneaking around once on the ship. Anyone know if I can buy now? jensue1 Posted October 27, 2006 #16 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Wow - I'm sooooo pleased I saw this thread as i too was wondering about the wine package everyone was talking about. It sounds good and my friend and I will definately do this. We are doing a 7 night cruise on mariner. Do you purchase the package the first night on board from the dinning room or somewhere else? As the previous person asked, I too wonder if you are able to purchase it before hand? Jenny :)
Schplinky Posted October 27, 2006 #17 Share Posted October 27, 2006 You can puirchase the package in the dining room or during the "expo" they have in the afternoon where they show all the ship's services. According the steward we spoke to, you will soon be able to pre-purchase these.
takeatrip Posted October 27, 2006 #18 Share Posted October 27, 2006 So they will send the bottle back to the room if we request it? And if any bottles are unopened can we choose someting to take home?
Schplinky Posted October 27, 2006 #19 Share Posted October 27, 2006 They will let you take a bottle to the room (you cannot order one through room service) and you can take home any unopened wine.
takeatrip Posted October 27, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Thanks so much! I know we'll want a bottle in the room as well as at dinner. Rather than preordering a bottle or 2 for the room I'll just ask in the dining room for one from the package to take back the first night. They will send an unopened bottle from the package with us, won't they?
BillB48 Posted October 27, 2006 #21 Share Posted October 27, 2006 They will let you take a bottle to the room (you cannot order one through room service) and you can take home any unopened wine. I thought I read somewhere in the alcohol thread that they no longer allowed you to take the wine from the dinning room but would hold it for you for another night :(. Can anyone shed some light on this as to what RCI's current policy is.....? Thanks
Schplinky Posted October 27, 2006 #22 Share Posted October 27, 2006 We were on Freedom last month and were allowed to take a bottle back and also to fill up our glasses and take along a "walker" as we left the meal. An unfinished bottle can be held for a subsequent night and you are still allowed to take unfinished bottles home.
BillB48 Posted October 27, 2006 #23 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Thanks for the update. On the RCI cruise I was on last year I ended up smuglling wine off the ship that I had smuggled on the ship to enjoy in the cabin because I usually had enough left over from dinner to enjoy later. JEANMR1 Posted October 27, 2006 #24 Share Posted October 27, 2006 In my cruise docs we just got there was a little blurb in it saying something to the effect of 'Coming soon you will be able to pre-purchase the wine package'
