What Is Your Definition Of A Good Travel Agent?

I've always booked my own trips on the internet but on our last cruise I booked another cruise while onboard. Now I need to transfer the booking to a TA. I know that in all businesses there are good ones and bad ones.

 

I am wondering what the difference is between a decent TA and a great TA?

Someone who

- is familiar with where you are travelling to

- does regular business with the cruise line that you are travelling on

- offers suggestions, sounds interested and not rushed

A great TA listens to their client; always procures the requested cabin; follows up inquiries in a timely manner; alerts the client on upcoming cruises, that the client had previously inquired about; and most of all....is courteous, professional, and works with integrity.

Try to find someone who wants to know what your interests are and what type of travel you prefer. Also, determine the availabilty of the travel agent, are they a part of a group or an independent. Is there someone available at all reasonable business hours should you have any questions? We have dealt with both types and sometimes found that an independent agent was not available due to their own traveling and therefore we missed out on some "specials" that were being offered by various companies. If the agent is part of a group, you know that someone else will have access to your files if your own TA is unavailable. Hope this helps.

Can someone explain to me exactly why I have to transfer to a TA from X?

If the price goes down, can't I just call X myself and get the lower price?

Indeed you can. If you're diligent, sometimes it's faster that way.
