Wow, that's surprising to hear. I've called Princess 3 times to check on which pier the Crown will be using starting 11/4 and all 3 times I've been told the same thing, Pier 4 in Old San Juan. They've also given me the address.

please please stay in old san juan pier 4....

is it possible they are switching to Pan American Port for the S. Caribbean iten.? the one start in Nov.

That is possible but according to Princess we're scheduled to leave from Pier 4 in Old San Juan for our 11/4 sailing. I've called 3 times about this and been told the same thing all 3 times and given the address for the pier to boot. Of course we all do know that Princess lots of times doesn't really know the answers and we get the real answer here first!

I guess I'll just have to wait for my documents which will hopefully be arriving soon.

I printed my tickets off of the Personlizer for Nov 25th cruise on the Crown & it was leaving from Pier 4.

I doubt they will change that if they are already printing tickets up with Pier 4. At least I hope so, I'm sailing on Nov 4th, and have yet to receive my tickets (can't print them online). When I do, which should be shortly, I'll find this thread and post the pier they have listed. I would rather be in Old San Juan, but when push comes to shove, it won't make much difference, we will still have a ball:)

HI !

So The Crown Will be docking on the Pan American Port Num 1 and no in Old San Juan.

Judging by the responses, people don't seemed thrilled with the Pan American Port. Why? Is it located in an undesirable location on the island - ex. nothing there - long travel to best beaches (which, by the way, which would that be. Past times going have never gone to the beach) or town? I've never heard of Pan American & sailing on Crown next summer.

On the Millenium we were at the Pan American pier and it wasn't a good location. I was glad that the Constellation docked in Old San Juan in April. It is funny that Celebrity uses both locations. I wonder if Princess does too- according to availability in Old San Juan (a busy port).

We are on the 12/30 sailing. The problem with the change in piers would be that a lot of us have booked pre-cruise hotels based on the Old San Juan Pier 4 location. Does anyone know how far apart, by taxi of course, the 2 locations are?

Its not surprising to me that Princess phone reps don't know about the switch; when the change was made on the Golden routes FROM the Pan Am pier TO the Old San Juan Pier #4 they did not know about that either.

As for hotels and distance, you are still at the closest hotels to the pier, the difference is only a short cab ride, it was only $5 in 2004; the picture link above is excellent for perspective. There are no hotels on the other side by the Pan Am pier.

We sailed from the Pan American pier on The Golden and had no problems.

It is a nice facility, easy to get in and out of, and was only a 10 minute cab ride from out hotel The Marriott Stellaris Resort and Casino in the Condado district.

The only problem we encountered was with the taxi driver who was told to take us to the Pan American Pier, carried us to the airport thinking we were looking for Pan American Airways. We even tried to tell him after we figured out that he was going in the wrong direction (we could see the ship from the hotel) but only AFTER we arrived at the airport did we get the point across by saying "We are sailing on The Golden Princess", THEN he said, "Okay, Okay Golden Princess" and then we were off to the pier. We had been in San Juan a couple of days and were in no hurry so we all had a good laugh.

Incidentally there is a nice liquor store inside the terminal just before you board the ship.

Have a great cruise,

Mike:D

I am traveling on the Crown on Feb.3/07 out of San Juan and was also told that the pier used was in Old San Juan and that was why we booked our pre-cruise hotel there at the Sheraton Old San Juan because it was very close. I will be very upset if they do change, not that it matters to them I'm sure but I don't understand why they would change things. Also if they do happen to change it for sure does anyone know the closest hotel to that pier????

Thanks Heather:mad:

Come on...Concern - ok, but if this person's slight error caused "panic" then people REALLY need a cruise to destress their life a bit!

Janet, the web shot sight you attached was great for showing exactly where everything is. The Pan Am terminal does not look like a convenient docking point so hopefully it is not where Princess will be docking.

The Pan Am pier isn't that bad. We left out of there on the 10/24/04 Golden sailing and it really was okay. We checked in and left the ship in the afternoon to go into Old San Juan. There were plenty of taxis and the taxi ride wasn't that long or that expensive. There's not question that Old San Juan is better but Pan Am won't be the end of the world.
