We are flying into Munich on Oct the 9th for a 2 night stay then on Oct 11th we have to be in Passau to board a Uniworld River Cruise,I think the distance between the 2 is 120 Miles could anyone give me an idea the best way to do this?

Steamboats or anyone else could you give us an idea about what should a taxi cost form the airport to Four Points Hotel, Schwanthalerstrasse 111

KD,

Munich airport (www.munich-airport.de) is far out of town. A cab ride is quite expensive. I´m not quite sure but it´s at least EUR 50.

We do have a very good public transportation system. In the central area of the airport you´ll find a information desk of the DB (Deutsche Bahn, German Rail) where you can get a ticket. Take a Partner Day Ticket for the entire network which is EUR 17 and is valid for up to 5 adults (or replace any adult by 2 kids :D ). This allows you to take the suburban trains to downtown. There are two lines S8 and S1. Both are running every 20 min. It doesn´t matter which train you are taking (S8 runs east of the town, S1 west). Your hotel is close to the subway station "Schwanthalerhoehe". Take the suburban train to Karlsplatz/Stachus and change to the subway U5 (direction Laimer Platz) and get off at Schwanthalerhoehe (3 stops). The ticket is valid for suburban train, subways, trams and buses for the rest of the day. You can also change at Hauptbahnhof (central station) but there you have to carry your bags all the way through the station. It´s a shorter walk at Karlsplatz. For more information about the public transportation system check http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/.

The best way to get to Passau is the train. Take the subway to Hauptbahnhof (2 stops) and get on the train. Check with http://www.bahn.de/ for connections. There are direct trains to Passau and the trains run about every hour (on some connections you have to change the train).

It´s about a 10 to 15 min walk from the train station to the riverfront in Passau. It´s going downhill and there are a lot of cobblestones. Maybe you´ll take a cab for that part. It´s only a short ride.

PS: There are private drivers which you can find on the airport website.
