Janiefrmde Posted September 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2006 The guaranteed balcony on the Constellation on Oct. 27th is almost $500 per person cheaper than the 2C category? Has anyone had a guaranteed room before? Good or bad experience?
gregg4 Posted September 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2006 We had one on our last Hawaii trip on the Summit. We wound up with a concierage class cabin and saved a lot of $$$. If you are happy with a 2c and don't care about location its worth it. Go for it.
rebeccalouise Posted September 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2006 Yes. I had great cabins on the Millenium and the Constellation using the guaranteed staterooms. No complaints. I had 7057 on Millenium and 6049 on Constellation. Both were midship and very nice.
Janiefrmde Posted September 24, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted September 24, 2006 We were midship and switched to guarantee. My husband and I are hoping we get as lucky as both of you did. Janie
CaliforniaDreamin Posted September 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2006 Booked the guarantee (2C) balcony and was assigned 6018. Got them to change it to 6043 (2C) so my wife would not have so far to walk to elevator and dining venues. After boarding Summit for the 5/7/06 WC/Alaska 13 night cruise I asked about upgrade to CC class and was put on wait list. About 9 pm that night they offered me a choice of two CC cabins and I selected 9154. It was only $130 total or $10 per night for the upgrade. I moved that night with staff assistance. It was well worth it to be in CC and aft rather than 2C forward.
TheHappyWanderer Posted September 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2006 We were upgraded from a guarantee to CC midships on one of the Century Baltic cruises. It was wonderful. On other trips we have been booked and remain booked in the lowest of the category guarantee cabins.
Nancyquilts Posted September 24, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2006 We have had several guaranteed cabins and have been happy with them all. Never been upgraded, but not a problem. Nancy
Irishwhiskey Posted September 24, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2006 We were upgraded three times on the Constellation last fall.We started out with an oceanview cabin, then rebooked three guaranteed balcony cabins at a much lower rate only to find out that we were upgraded to the concierage cabin when we picked up our documents. All cabins were right next to each other near mid ship cabins 8045-47 and 49.One of the best deals we've ever had.I always ask my TA to request a guarantee reservation if one should be availiable. jaxon41 Posted September 24, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2006 Had a guarantee on a Hawaii/Infinity voyage. I have never received an upgrade, but I am ok with any balcony, so guarantee works for me.
caviargal Posted September 24, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2006 I booked a 2A GTY and that is exactly what I got.
SheilaNC Posted September 24, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 24, 2006 We booked our first Balcony guarantees for our B2B cruises in 2008 - got them assigned quickly - not the same for both cruises (we'll still hoping) but mid-ship and just what we hoped for. Bruin Steve Posted September 24, 2006 #12 Share Posted September 24, 2006 First, don't worry about "upgrades"... If you get one, great...consider it a bonus... The real way to look at a balcony guarantee is to ask yourself: "Would I be happy with the WORST 2C on the ship?" Truth be told, there are NO "bad" 2Cs on an M-Class ship... The poster who was upset with 6018? MOST people would KILL for 6018... The first 8 balcony cabins forward on either side of the ship have balconies which are DOUBLE the size of the other balconies... We did a balcony guarantee on the Connie one cruise and got assigned #6035...The balcony is huge... Are there long walks? To the Dining Room, sure...but it's a very short walk to the show room...If you figure you spend more time in the Dining Room end...and you can't walk...then, don't book the guarantee... But, for most of us, we're walking all over the ship anyway...and it's good for us...especially with all we're eating... But, to save $500 off the fare to let X pick your balcony for you? Heck, I wish I could do that EVERY cruise... IMHO, the balcony guarantee, when offered, is the best deal on the ship...
Janiefrmde Posted September 26, 2006 Author #13 Share Posted September 26, 2006 Thanks for all the emails concerning guaranteed rooms. We received our room today - #8007. I was upgraded from a 2C to a 2A but it is the very first balcony at the front of the ship. I am a little nervous concerning the rocking going down the East Coast from Cape Liberty to Key West. Has anyone had a room on a M Class that was forward? What are my chances of calling Celebrity to see if I can move down a bit or is it better to ask when I get to Bayonne. This is our first vacation in 2 years because I have been battling breast cancer and just finished chemotherapy a little while ago. I have been nauseous for a year and I would be disappointed to still be sick on vacation. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Janie
SheilaNC Posted September 26, 2006 #14 Share Posted September 26, 2006 Janie, Suggest that you ask your MD which motion sickness medication would be best for you. The cabins near the front of the ship are supposed to have more motion but, frankly, any cabin will feel motion going out of Bayonne and into the Atlantic. You can certainly call your TA (or Celebrity if you booked direct) and ask for a change explaining your reason. You may not get a change but you certainly won't if you don't ask. Good luck! Janiefrmde Posted September 27, 2006 Author #15 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Thanks for your advice, Spengle. I called tonight and spoke with DJ, a wonderful resolutions specialist from Celebrity and told her my situation. She actually gave me several choices and she suggested 9161 on the Sky Deck. It is an Aft room that is close to the elevators. She said it will be much more comfortable than the 8007. Thank goodness for nice people!
SheilaNC Posted September 27, 2006 #16 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Good for you, Janie. I'm sure you'll love the aft room...they are the best and I hope to have one some day. Do post a report when you return.
