Houston building a "state of the art" cruise terminal?? (Merged threads)

The new cruise terminal is 200% better than the old one and will be close to lots more things. The road into and out of it like a new freeway. There will be shuttles over to Kema Boardwalk from there. Just need a ship.

For NCL in the HA islands. I felt you had to get your mind set that it was your HOTEL. The ship was in port almost the whole day from 730a to 8p at night. It is great to visit all those islands and have time for exploring. No casino on board. The view of the live valcano at night was a large highlite of the trip. Hope they keep them on.

Correction. The new road into the new terminal is only half completed and the interchange is 2-3 years away. Granted there isn't a lot of traffic on Port Rd on weekends but it is heavy with truck traffic during the week.

We went to the new Bayport Cruise Terminal to see the tall ship Elissa.

Elissa> we see the ship all time docked in Galveston. Since it was on a site seeing tour at the new terminal, this gave us an excuse to finally "see" the new terminal. We donated our 5 dollars a piece and toured the Elissa and listened to the volunteers who work/maintain/crew the ship. We then watched a DVD on the resurrection of the Elissa from a Greek shipyard, this was a cool info DVD about the the ship.

The new terminal> looks like there is still some work on the building to be done.

The parking lot looks finished and is striped. The big huge ship bumpers are chained and floating along the pier. The building is very large. Can't wait to sail from this new facility and see how fast they can load and unload a ship!!!!

This new terminal is really big. The way I understand this will work is.....

It's a two story building, you drop off/approach on what is ground level, but that is actually the second level.

When a ship debarks....all baggage goes to "pier level", for lack of a better explanation.

So the whole bottom has plenty of space for say a Voyager or bigger ship for luggage to unload.....and plenty of space for embark on the top level

too many rumors on who will be the first (other than the Elissa)

MSC sounds like the best rumor since they are already a customer for the container side of Bayport

Just bringing this thread back to the top. I'd ask if there was any new information, but I know my great friends at CC will post as soon as something is announced! Still hoping to hear an announcement soon!

The Gulf ports of Galveston, Houston, Corpus Christi, New Orleans and Mobile are mentioned for a 7-day itinerary with Tampico on Day 2, Veracruz on Day 3, Dos Bocas on Day 4 and Progreso on Day 5.

Wouldn't count on it ever happening although Vera Cruz would be fantastic. Would also love to see something from Corpus Christi.

I would love to see Vera Cruz on the itinerary!

Been there once and would go back in a NY minute.

Very friendly people, happy to see cruisers and

almost undiscovered

If I read it correctly, the article mentioned that Holland American was visiting a couple of the ports in 2009??? Wonder where those cruises are leaving from? I'd REALLY like to see a HAL ship in Galveston or Houston.

The Zuiderdam leaves Ft Lauderdale, FL on 04/18/09 for her 18-day to Los Angeles, CA or 21-day to Vancouver, BC.

Sorry, but no Galveston or Houston involvement.

I guess "this fall" sounds encouraging, but you could also take it as that they will not have the grand opening until they have a cruise ship dock.

all the local Cruise Critic members could meet at the grand opening! We could have our own get-together proudly wearing Cruise Critic logo-wear from http://www.cruisecritic.com/store/ as we join in the festivities. Hopefully, some of us will be sailing on whatever ship from whatever cruise line that docks!
