RealDeal Posted October 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2006 Looking for a hotel in Galveston pre-cruise...Any suggestions? Seems a lot of people have mentioned the Holiday Inn, but there are 2 of them in Galveston: Holiday Inn Resort & Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. Anyone know which is preferable, or some other alternatives? Thanks.
CaptData Posted October 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2006 Here is what I wrote for another person. Go to Galveston.com. There is the Galveston Limo service which is like a bus service between IHA and Hobby to Galveston. It costs about $60.00 round trip per person. As for hotels: the Tremont House the Galvez the Sand Luis Resort Moody Gardens Hotel the Hilton Resort There are others. I took this from a list of Brn2crz. She is a local. lougee1043 Posted October 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2006 galvez has pre cruise packages --- if you drive there you can park for free and the hotel has shuttle service to and from the port
clackey Posted October 4, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 4, 2006 We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Beach a couple of times. They have free parking and a free shuttle service but their rates change with the season. Last Feb. the rate was $100 and this Nov. the same room is $175. If you are going in the off season, you are in luck.
Mekamax Posted October 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2006 HIlton has good reviews from past cruisers. I have stayed at the San Luis Resort and it is awesome but so is the price. Very nice hotel though if you want to treat yourselves... :) :p Debbie
RealDeal Posted October 5, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted October 5, 2006 Thanks...I believe it's already sold out for the end of Jan! I got a room at the Harbor House (I think that's the name!) for $97 thru AAA.
JiminyCricket Posted October 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We stayed at the San Luis in Feb 06. Wonderful hotel with a great pool area. Yes it's pricey but well worth it. You can park your car there for free during the cruise and they will take you to and pick you up from the pier with their free shuttle.
robtx100 Posted October 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2006 FYI, Tremont also offers free parking at the Galvez if you stay there. You pay a $10 Valet fee for the night you stay there, but there is no charge for the time you are on the cruise. Still patiently waiting for Feb. 4. clearlakecruisers Posted October 6, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2006 ..."Tremont also offers free parking at the Galvez if you stay there." ...and the Tremont is right in the midst of the shops on The Strand and the art galleries on Post Office Street. It is also historical and VERY charming.
BrendaB1 Posted October 7, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 7, 2006 Hilton, Holiday Inn on the Beach & San Luis are all owned by the same company, as is Landry's Seafood. All offer free cruise parking & shuttle to & from the cruise terminal. Good club located at the Holiday Inn called B Jiggers with Happy Hour 7 days a week from 3-9, live bands on Thurs, Fri & Sat night. Good locations, across the street from the beach, International House of Pancakes, Walmart, Rain Forest Cafe, along with other places to eat nearby.
