apados Posted October 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2006 Greets, I've searched the forums but haven't come up with much. If this has been asked previously, just point me to the post, and I'll be glad to read it. The primary question is, what's the difference between Concierge Class Cabin and a Premium Ocean View Cabin on the Mercury? The square footage appears to be the same as well as the view. Also, is it worth upgrading on an 8 day cruise from Premium to Concierge for 32.50 per day? Also, any rooms to avoid on the Mercury? I saw a few posts on rooms to avoid on other classes of ships, but didn't see anything on the Mercury (then again I may have missed it). Thanks! Fblack Posted October 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2006 I have been on the Mercury twice. The last time in April of this year. I don't think it's worth $32 per day (I assume per person) Spend the money on drinks or shore excursions.

FinelyCruising Posted October 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2006 CC and ocean view....do you mean a CC Balcony and Oceanview...if so, the perks are nice, but the cabin is cramped to begin with on Mercury and the flowers took up critical space IMHO and the fruit too...the other things like the champage and hors douvres we just enjoyed having, but we had to keep moving stuff around...again, the cabins on Mercury and horizontal space are a bit on the small side....I don't remember everything we got, but we took CC again for our March cruise on Connie. mctrekkie Posted October 6, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2006 If you choose a CC on Sky Deck, they have the extra large verandahs, if that's of interest to you. That big verandah got lots of use on our cruise last week!

Fblack Posted October 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2006 The cabins on the Mercury are very small. About 172 s.f. You can get daily fruit in any cabin by asking. You can get a robe in any cabin by asking. The champaigne is not good stuff. The free key holder and stationary is a waste. I would save the money and use it in the shops or on shore. BTW... I am Elite status on Celebrity and have been in virtually all types of cabins.
bububr Posted October 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2006 I'm Elite also and have been in various cabins. The BEST CC cabins on Mercury are on deck 12 due to the extra large balconies. Also there is less traffic going in and out of the corridors. The difference is similar to staying in a hotel. You could stay at the Days Inn or the Sheraton. (Just assume each room is the same size). You pay more for the Sheraton, but get fluffy bathrobes, nicer towels, Flowers in the bathroom, Special bottles of shampoos and lotions, chintzy stationary, an inexpensive bottle of 'cheer', flowers in the room, canapes (6) everynight before dinner, and a pillow menue where you can get a body pillow, down pillow or others....You also get priorty tender tickets if you are at a tender port (somewhat important) {I think?, can't remember}..a better showerhead, a leather room card holder, and a nice umbrella to use if it rains. You pay less at Days inn, But get a nice clean room, with an adequate bathroom, some basic small soaps and shampoos (maybe), And a comfortable bed. To me they are the same rooms, one is a stripped down model, the other has some bells and whistles. Is it worth it? If you've never cruised before, its worth doing once if you have the extra funds, If you've cruised before you might just stay with the regular cabin and use the extra cash for excursions, bingo, casino, shopping or drinks...... Personally I like the Concierge Class, but to be honest I do go for price. If there is a good deal, I'll do it, if the cruise is already a bit high, I''l opt for a regular balcony, or window...heck I've done an inside just to get out of Dodge sometimes....You don't really spend that much time in your cabin. Unless you enjoy the serenity of a personal balcony..Other wise its there to sleep, shower, change....... Dave:eek:
SandyMc Posted October 6, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We did CC on Mercury earlier this year and were disappointed. As FinelyCruising says, all those extras take up space - we finally had them take away the fruit basket and kept moving the flowers around. Unless you can get one with the bigger balcony, I vote that it is not worth the extra money!
Sailrsdlite Posted October 6, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We've sailed five times on Celebrity and have CC 8185 (on the fantail) booked for next year. It's nice to get the bells and whistles every once in a while, but it's not necessary on every cruise; and it certainly doesn't make or break my cruise experience. To those Elite Members: Have any of you had a one of the CC staterooms on the fantail? This is our first time in that location and would like to hear your comments. greeneg Posted October 6, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2006 On the Mercury, according to the deck plans, 8185 is an inside, not a CC class cabin. Sure you have the right ship?
lobby Posted October 6, 2006 #12 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We are booked on Summit for the cruise to Hawaii march 17th 2007. We had booked a 2b cabin with a slightly bigger balcony,I didnot think it was worth paying the extra money for a regular cc cabin, but then I saw an aft cabin 7203 become available, I jumped at the chance to have one of these cabins with the very large balcony and of course didnot mind paying the extra money to get it. I am sure I have made the right decision.

Karynanne Posted October 6, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 6, 2006 My apologies. I neglected to say we are on the Constellation. We've had an Aft cabin quite a few times. Love them!! Due to the size of the balcony, the cabin itself appears quite large. The CC cabin is 191 sq.ft, but has the illusion of being larger. We're in one again in 2 weeks, and can't wait! You will love it! apados Posted October 9, 2006 Author #16 Share Posted October 9, 2006 Thanks for the replies. They have all been helpful. I think my wife and I will stick with the balcony room on the Vista (9th??) deck and get some massages instead :) Thanks again!
socialworker Posted October 9, 2006 #17 Share Posted October 9, 2006 Tried our first CC last week on the Mercury. Nope, I wouldn't pay a lot extra for CC. Fortunately we were on just a little 3 day PNW, so it was a good time to try it out. We did use the binoculars, ate some of the fruit, DH had the six canapes each evening, we drank the champagne, took advantage of the extended in-cabin breakfast menu, and pillow menu. The flower in the bathroom was plastic (tacky, tacky); the real flowers were crammed in a corner on the little ledge. It seemed to us that the balcony took up room space. Is that possible? Desertbelle Posted October 9, 2006 #19 Share Posted October 9, 2006 I loved the fresh flowers in the cabin when we had CC on the Millennium last year. In fact, I bought one of those wonderful flower vases with what looks like test tubes lined up, and we bring it on every cruise and we get flowers for it, even when we aren't in CC. The rose in our bathroom was changed twice (3 in all), as soon as it was overly opened and looking sad, a new one appeared. We have one of the famous CC cabins, 1201, booked for our 14 day Austrailia/New Zealand cruise on the Mercury next year....I can't wait for that extra pampering. :D
paulap70 Posted October 9, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 9, 2006 Does Celebrity offer a Concierge Lounge with free drinks and appetizers each evening? RCCL does, for those booked in suites and if you're Diamond or above on C&A. If there is a Concierge Lounge on Celebrity, what are the requirements for entering? I would rather have nothing than a piece of plastic in there. On our first day we did not have fresh flowers in the cabin itself - they only showed up on day 2. I think this maybe has more to do with flower issues (i.e. lack of flowers) than policy - I hope.
