bb2810 Posted October 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We are considering a cruise in March on the Ryndam calling at Loreto, La Paz, Topolobampo and Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez as well as Mazataln and Pureto Vellarta. We have interest in whale watching and would appreciate comment from any cruiser who has whale watching experience from any of these ports. Recommendations of private boat operaters would be welcome. Ine Posted October 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2006 If you like a whale watch in a large Zodiac in P. Vallarta: http://www.vallartawhales.com/ We loved it. No bathroom on board, so be prepared.

No bathroom on board, so be prepared. How bumpy was your ride? What time of year did you do that excursion? A friend just mentioned that she had been on one of the Zodiac boats in Hawaii and that the seas were very rough. She said her back hurt for weeks afterward. Splinter Posted October 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2006 We did this trip 2 years ago and saw tons of whales from the ship once we rounded Cabo and got into the Sea of Cortez on our way to Loreto. They were right along side the ship, and we watched until dark. Unfortunately the ship stopped and let down a tender to investigate a large object in the water that they feared was an overturned boat. It proved to be a dead whale. In spite of this we saw many live whales along this stretch, so did not feel the need to go on a separate whale watching excursion.

Once in January and again a year later in March. It was absolutely not rough, as P. Vallarta is situated in a large bay.(Bay of banderas). The water is more or less protected from the Pacific. In general not those big waves. Of course no quarantees on any sea....
Cruise_More_Often Posted October 11, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Thanks, Ine! I should have paid more attention to what you said in your original thread; I even clicked on your link that said "vallarta". We're going whale watching in Cabo. :D
bb2810 Posted October 12, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Thanks to all of you who replied and offered helpful links. Splinter- please tell us the month of the cruise on which you saw many whales right from the ship. Sounds good. bb2810 Bruce O'Dea Bradenton, FL.
