Our son will be turning 21 while we are aboard the Triumph next year(6-17-07), will he be allowed to purchase any of the adult drinks if he wishes to do so? What I'm asking is,will he be considered 20 for the entire trip since he will be 20 the first day of the cruise(6-16) or will the restrictions about drinking change when he turn 21? We would like to buy him a drink of the day to celebrate. Miami Vice or Mud Slider may be. Has this been a problem for any of the posters? No hard liquors, as this is the only time we celebrate with a few foo foo drinks.( on vacation and holidays). Recommendations for new frozen drinks or mixed drinks to try are greatly appreciated. Also,if possible, when giving names of new drinks to try, please list ingridients. Thanks!!!!!

He will be considered to be 20 years old for the entire cruise since he will be 20 at the time of sailing.

Yes he will be considered 20 the entire cruise...this happened to me on our family's Christmas cruise, since my BD is on the 23rd. But if you don't choose to change the date for that very reason, remember mostly all ports have a drinking age of 18 anyway!

This was taken directly from the Carnival website.

[]Are there any age restrictions on board

Drinking Alcoholic Beverages: Guest must be 21 years of age or older to be served alcohol on board. Proper I.D. with birth date is required.

Casino: Guest must be 18 years of age or older to play the tables and the slot machines. Guests under 18 years of age are not permitted in the casino.

Spa Carnival and Gym: Guests under 16 years of age are not permitted in these facilities. Guests between the ages of 16 and 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Lounges, Shows, and Disco: Guests under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult in all public areas of the ship. Guests under the age of 18 must vacate the disco by 11 PM.

Use of the Waterslide: Guests must be at least 48" inches in height to use the waterslide on the following ships:

Holiday, Jubilee, Celebration, Fantasy, Sensation, Elation, Paradise, Inspiration, Imagination, Fascination, Ecstasy

Guests must be at least 42" inches in height to use the waterslide on the following ships:

Destiny, Triumph, Victory, Spirit, Pride, Conquest, Legend, Glory, Miracle, Valor

Guests under 13 must have their parents permission.

Use of the Pools: Due to United States Public Health (USPH) Regulations, we do not allow children in diapers or those not toilet-trained in the pools.

Lifeguards are not on duty.

Use of the pools by guests under 13 without adult supervision is prohibited.

It doesnt say age at time of sailing. Just you have to be 21 to be served.

On the law books perhaps, but from my experience (and probably yours, and a thousand others) there is a complicated mathematical equation most bars in the ports you visit use:

If you are 15, and you have $5, that makes you 20 and therefore are good to go....

Buy the young man a cocktail, OP- although the rule is indeed 21 at embarkation, personally I think if someone turns 21 onboard, they should be able to drink when they turn that special age.:)

What a great way to celebrate a 21st birthday. As others have said there should not be a problem as long as he is not trying to charge it to his S&S card which might show his age. He should be carrying his DL along with his S&S card for ID when going ashore so he can purchase his own drinks in most ports at 20 or 21. I hope he has a great birthday!

The problem is that his Sign and Sail card will be blocked from allowing alcoholic beverages to be billed to it. On his birthday he should go to the Pursor's desk and ask them to change the flag on his card. Perhaps this is possible, perhaps not, but it's worth a try.

I am not sure this will help, but my son was 17 when we boarded in July on the Conquest. He joined the fun in the 02 club, but toward the end of the cruise he turned 18. He was able to gamble, by them running his S%S card, which changed his age. Maybe the compute system is smart!:)

If when we cruise my husband is over 21 and I am 20, can he buy me drinks without a problem??

It is at your own risk.

Carnival reserves the right to refuse to serve alcohol to any passenger. Guest acknowledges that the minimum age permitted for the purchase, possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages aboard Carnival’s vessels is twenty-one (21). Guest agrees to supervise all persons under age twenty-one (21) under Guest’s charge to insure that they do not violate this, or any other, shipboard regulation. Guests who attempt to purchase alcohol by using false identification or the Sail & Sign card of a Guest who is twenty-one or older will be deemed in violation of this policy. Any Guest twenty-one or older who attempts to or purchases alcohol for any guest under twenty-one will also be deemed in violation of this policy. Guest agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark any guest who violates this policy and as well as any adults traveling with minors who violate this policy or any other shipboard regulation.

Sorry, but my step sons Sail and Sign card was not blocked from having all the alcoholic beverages that he purchased while we were on the Paradise a few weeks ago. He had NO problems getting as much alcohol as he wanted and he was only 20. I was very disappionted in Carnival. This is an area that I feel that they need to work a little hard on.

The OP is sailing on the Triumph. The computer systems on the newer ships do block underage passengers from purchasing alcohol. It was her question that I was answering.

When I sailed on Triumph (it was a while ago), i was 20 when i stepped on the ship and turned 21 two days into the cruise. I had no problem buying drinks at all. In fact i ordered drinks for my mom and aunt on the first two days of the cruise when legally i shouldn't have been allowed to. I would assume if he had his ID with birthdate on it, he could show it if there were a problem. Tell him to have fun! It's a great way to celebrate a 21st birthday!! :p

Sorry, but this is something the guardian/parent should work on - assuming it is an issue for said parent/guardian/adult.

I don't know if this will work on all the ships, But when we sailed a young lady in our group turned 21 in middle of the cruise my SO went to the pursers desk without her (so she wouldn't be disappointed)to see if they could change it, THEY CHANGED it Without her even being present! and told him to have her come by with her old card so they could give her a new one, catch was he had to find her fast, cuz her old card didn't work anymore.
