What is wrong with the Destiny?

Why go in that direction?

Replace Puerto Ricans with Floridians, or New Yorkers, or Alaskans, or Europeans, and there's no stigma. What you're describing would only offend one that thought that way.

If I sail from Puerto Rico, I would expect a large percentage to be sailing with me.

And anywhere else, for that matter.

If I'm getting your meaning, I disagree. There have been really nasty fights here when someone states "I'm not sailing from Bayonne. Too many rude NJ'ers." Then you get the "How dare you make generalizations like that? Not all of us are rude, rude is everywhere, etc." People certainly take exception to those kinds of statements when they are directed at THEM. And they are right.

Floridians, New Yorkers, Alaskans, and Europeans are not races or ethnicities. ;)

But they are different groups of people from different places.;)

I think that Mr. Pete was considering the people from Puerto Rico, Florida, New York, etc as different groups of people from different ports, not necessarily different races/ethnicities. People from New York are different from Floridians, as they are from Europeans, Puerto Ricans, Californians, etc.

When many of these threads get poofed, it never seems to occur to the puzzled participants why threads which make generalizations about Puerto Ricans as being "rude," "ghetto," and other disparaging remarks are breaking the rules of the cruise critic message board. We wouldn't tolerate threads which say "Wow, my cruise left from (wherever) and there were so many low income Africans onboard. Can you say "GHETTO?" Never again will I sail from there!" Yet many of us on cruise critic let it pass when these remarks are made about Puerto Ricans.

Locals are locals. They could have been from Malawi. It didn't matter. If the behavior that gives this itinerary such a black eye also causes one group of people to look bad, let the chips fall where they may. I purposely removed all attempts at false political correctness from my posts because, prior to my cruise, I could not for the life of me, figure out what was wrong with cruising from San Juan. However, a vast majority of people that mentioned the Destiny and the AOS said they "would never leave from San Juan again." Now I know why. But, as always, if someone attempts to tell the truth without the false liberalization of the American public speech, they are instantly bias. Guess what, we are all bias to some extent. For me personally, I have decided that because I do not find a certain culture to be particular friendly and inviting but instead rather standoffish and distant, it is my choice to avoid visiting those ports. You guess which ones.

It really wouldn't matter the color or nationality or economical station of people if they behaved badly, they just behaved badly.

If you desire an opportunity to spread your definition of political correctness to my personal opinions -- oops too bad, oh so sad for you.

I called it like I saw it. I didn't call any one nationality Ghetto, I called the ship the "Ghetto Cruise" because the ship was run down, the staff was overworked, the service was just passable and it was obvious that Carnival made no attempt to bring this ship up to the standards of its other cruises. In short, the same as would be done by a landlord of a tenement when said landlord believed that his tenant either could not or would not demand better (a.k.a The GHETTO).

If Cruise Critic cruisers got on a ship and acted out, then the one common denominator of the bad behavers would be cruise critic membership. Does that mean all members of cruise critic. Of course not. But, we all represent groups. Whether it be religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, economic station or region. If we behave badly, we discredit the groups we are a member of. There is something we Americans have learned to shake off -- PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. We can't misbehave and then scream racism when someone makes mention that all of the misbehavers were of one "group".

As for the comment Uncle Jose, if I was talking about a ship out of Texas I would have said, "Uncle Bob" or "Aunt Suzi May". If I was talking about a prodominately African American crowd, I would have said, "Uncle Tyrone" or "Aunt Keisha." Anyone is offended, don't bother. It is meant not as an insult but as a descriptive word.

Oh for the record, I am an African American New York City Single Parent Professional Female Over 40. When I act up in public, I discredit a whole lot of minority groups.

Relax. If someone if offended, I didn't mean you.

No, you discredit yourself. Period.

Call it "refusal to be PC" or call it prejudice. The meaning is clear regardless of the label.

If the Destiny has problems, and it sounds as if it truly does, then Carnival needs to address it. However, the only way they will make some people happy is if they bar the locals from the ship. Not gonna happen. There is no rudeness meter when one boards a ship. The only thing the cruise line can do is to enforce standards of behavior onboard consistently, holding everyone to the same standards. Other than that, people have to "relax" and accept that not everyone is alike and that's really not a bad thing.

Refer to me as you choose. However, The Destiny does not treat all of their passengers equally. There is the problem.

The misbehavers are only doing as they are led to believe they can behave.

P.S. What is your fixation with my PC-ness. What is it to you?

Just like "my" Bears. :D

However, seriously, most everyone I know personally always remembers what deck their on. Even years after their cruises. ;)

I've only cruised five times, but I couldn't tell you the deck or room of any of them, truly.

"Your" Bears did alright last night, didn't think they were going to pull it off...:)

NOTE*THIS WAS MY FIRST CRUISE*

1) The Hispanic male DJ (with a ponytail) in the Point After lounge was a jerk. I think he wanted me to pay him for a request.

2) The buffet food was just "o.k."

3) They dont have regular ESPN in the sports bar.

4) I donated $150 to the casino.

Thats it.

And no, I havent posted a review. I dont think it would be very fair since I have nothing to compare this cruise against. I can only speak of my experiences. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You go girl !!!! I agree with you 100%!!!

But, I do need to correct you. We call em Uncle Bubba and Aunt Sissy down here in Texas, LOL. And, if you ever cruise from Texas and they end up being low-life or ghetto, you go right ahead and say so. It won't offend me one little bit!

Bubba is the name. When I was writing the post, I could not think of a name that would best describe a "good old boy from Texas". The name is Bubba. Ha! Ha! Ha!. And it is Sissy. I have to remember that. It is not Mary Sue Landers? How funny!!!

O.K. who is upset at that????? Where is my fire extinguisher?
