:) Hey all....very curious about something here....how does carnival manage the soda cards on different ships...what I mean is...what keeps someone from buying a soda card on the Conquest.....saving it..and re-using it on the Freedom..or Liberty..for example...I know from our Conquest cruise that they dont ensure that the soda card is yours...they simply see it to ensure you have one....and there are no card holder names or ship names on the card..sooo..what keeps someone from keeping their old card...and using it on another ship?? are they different colors based on the ship?? very interested to think about......

I know we've had light blue and darker blue cards - don't know if they switch colors each week or if different ships get different colors. Also, they tend to write the date you can use it in large print in fat black sharpie.

For me, the cost is neglible when compared to what I've paid for the cruise for my family. It's simply habit to get on board, go to our cabins and then go to the Lido deck to buy a card for me and one for our son.

A quick response to your question. The Soda cards do not differ from ship to ship. Carnival assumes that not many people will take more than 1 cruise per year and thus I believe they change the color yearly. As for ID. You sign the back of the card & put on your sail date, in front of the host selling you the card. Then 99% of the time at any bar you just flash your card and get the glass of soda. Most of the Bar Tenders do not check the back of the cards.

However, that is not to say that you should buy your soda card and re-use it for a future cruise. This act in itself will start a firestorn on this board the likes to which you have never before seen.

I'ld like to think that most people are honest. You know: character.

I'd like to think that everyone had all the money in the world to buy soda. You know: money grows on trees.

really, I think it's a big cost to us and not a big cost to them. Soda syrup is CHEAP! each soda they pour you (assuming it's an 8 oz glass with ice) costs less than a dollar. The cup is most likely the expensive part.

Now if you think of how much you spend on a card and how much soda you actually drink, they're profitting hugely. True it keeps cruise costs down, but really alcohol and the casino make more money than soda, so why not keep a card for a couple of cruises. It's more convenient and if you can get away with it, all the more power to you.
