Artemis review from previous passenger! hi everyone!

i'm on the artemis world cruise from singapore in jan 07 and just thought i'd pass on a little bit of info that i got off a friend of mine who went on the artemis last month!

i'll start with the good... having been on all the p&o fleet, he said the food was the best he's ever had! the cabaret's were fantastic, the main area is beautiful and the staff are very friendly! yet because i'm only 23, he was quick to point out that he was one of the youngest there (at 65) - now although this is not an issue to me as i understand that i'll be in the minority, what scared me a little was the word zimmer-frame (when referring to the majority of the ship..) - he said this affected the atmosphere slightly as he was often the only one staying up after midnight! also, he said there isn't a pub as such - only bars in dining areas, which is a little disconcerting as i do like to drink and socialise ;-)

the only other thing which i was quite disappointed about but may not concern others is that the pool is only about 10metres long! it's filled with sea water and is outside so is often a little on the dirty side..?

i know i'll have a whale of a time regardless of these things but i must admit it has planted a seed of doubt in my mind!

hopefully someone can give me a little reassurance!? :confused:

World cruises do tend to draw a more mature crowd.

 

The ship itself is great - we sailed her 4 times while she was Royal Princess, and were very sorry to see leave the fleet.

 

She has a liner-like hull, and takes to heavy seas very well.

We went on Artemis last year to Norway and Spitzbergen and enjoyed the ship very much. It was our first P&O cruise as we generally go for smaller ships but we had a very good time. I agree the food was good and the cabarets superb.

 

I think it inevitable that if you go on a ship without families and children the age group will generally be higher but perhaps Druke is right a world cruise may well attract an older crowd. I honestly do not remember any zimmer frames and possibly only about three or four people in wheelchairs. We are not night club type people but after the show after second sitting dinner at about 11.30 pm at night we would often just look in on our way to bed and there seemed plenty of people around at that time. I must admit we then went to bed so what happened after midnight I do not know.

 

There were certainly some younger people around. On a table of six we had someone under fifty, there was a very young honeymoon couple on the next table and we met half a dozen people on a train who I think were in the 40-50 age group. Most people were probably in the early stages of retirement. Hope this helps.

Just looking forward to it now - am sure i'll love every minute - will certainly be an adventure anyhow! Just hope it doesn't become a very expensive habit!!?

Catherine - we were on Artemis last year and had a lovely holiday. The food was very good indeed.....

Because it's an adult only ship then of course you won't have the younger families on board - some people prefer that. There were several younger people sailing with us and the night club did well. However, on a segment of a world cruise, it could well be different. Nevertheless, what is certain is that it will be a fantastic experience and one to look forward to without a doubt. You will have a fantastic time.

Hi tommygirl, I have just returned from the Artemis on the Iberian Adventure. The ship is really good and the food is excellent. There were quite a few younger people on board and the night club was quite busy. . The salt water pool is really good and was very clean, but it can get busy. the entertainment is really good, you can take your own drink on board as it is quite expensive in the bars. A bottle of wine is £12 and a gin and tonic is £2.55. everything is in sterling. the crew are very friendly and attentative.

We haven't been on the Artemis, but did do a section of the world cruise on the Oriana. Whilst the age of the passengers doing the whole trip was older, there were plenty of younger people taking the short segments. So there should be no shortage of younger folk. The crew also frequent the nightlife I hear!
