ROLL CALL: 2/25/07 Caribbean Princess

Mark and Donny - I'll be with you on the 8:30 12 Meter challenge in St. Maarten. I just can't do two early mornings in a row when vacationing :) It's supposed to be one of the best excursions in the Caribbean, so I hope it's at least somewhat lives up to the hype.

Dave, the Rasul treatment is a couples treatment in the spa...they put you in a room (just the two of you) with this special mud that you rub all over each other, and then there's some sort of water bath, steam thing, that happens to clean up after you've been having fun in the mud... straight couples rave about it, we'll see if it translates. If you're interested, you can pre book it. It's listed as Rasul, and though it says nothing about couples, that's what it is. I'm interested to see how the spa staff handles it :)

I noticed someone said they signed up for an event...I think mud wrestling or something. Anyway, how do I see a list of events and sign up for the one's I'm interested in. Newbee here...only my 2nd cruise...well on water anyway!! :)

Hi there Joseph, welcome to the board.

Matt said that he had signed up for the Rasul Mud Room. It is a treatment at the Lotus Spa.

Once you have your booking number, which is part of your cruise documents, you can log in to the Cruise Personalizer on the Princess website.

The Cruise Personalizer allows you to complete some important information for embarkation such as emergency contact info, passport number, and credit card information for your on board charge account. Optional sections of the personalizer are to pre-reserve shore excursions and/or spa treatments.

If you read through the messages on this board, you will find that many of us have signed up for a Champagne Catamaran sail to St John at 815 upon arrival in St Thomas. Other excursions have ben mentioned as well so that if you are intersted in taking one you might find someone from Cruise Critic that you can meet up with before hand.

I hope this helps.

Christopher

Oh and Matt: I see you reached the 500 posts mark. Congrats on the accomplishment. Thanks for getting this Roll Call started and shring such great advice.

I have been trying to keep track of all the Cruise Critic posters that are going on the 8:15 Catamaran Cruise, and so far I have 11 names. They are: Max & Bob, Christopher, Tom, Mike & Gary, Ftlwill, Ken & Kip, and Mark & Donny.

Is there anyone I am missing?

Also, according to the excursion signup, there were 20 available openings to begin with, and this didn't change for a long time. Last night it was down to 19, and now down to 17. This leads me to believe that there might be more than one catamaran that they use and that they are now filling up the last one. (The 9:15 sailing still says 20 available) Therefore, we will have to be sure we all get on the same one, somehow.

For those who aren't familiar with the catamaran cruise, here is the description from the Princess website:

Champagne Catamaran Sailaway To St. John

Take an exclusive cruise on a sailing catamaran and enjoy some fun in the sun on enchanted St. John. WHAT YOU VISIT

After a brief safari bus transfer step aboard the catamaran for your sail to the lovely, palm-fringed beaches of St. John, safeguarded by the National Park Service. Meet your friendly crew at the dock and then cruise along St. Thomas’ eastern shore before the brisk sail across Pillsbury Sound. Anchor at a special mooring off a St. John beach and then enjoy approximately 90 minutes to swim, snorkel, beach comb, or just relax under the swaying palms. Freshly baked breads, cheeses, fruit, and non-alcoholic beverages are served onboard; complimentary champagne and other alcoholic beverages are available after snorkeling. Snorkeling equipment including snorkel vest, professional instruction, and supervision are provided.

Steven… you lived in Saratoga? Cool… we are on the far side of Saratoga, by Westgate :) I don’t remember fireworks off the back of the ship on my first cruises in the early 90s, but I do remember RSVP putting a teddy bear with a little RSVP t-shirt on your pillow, great ball caps, sunglasses, and some of the other cool stuff they used to do (I *so* miss walking off the ship with my video in hand instead of waiting 2 months). Heh… I know they still give you a beach bag, but honestly, I throw em out at the end of each cruise, the last few have been butt ugly.

David… re: tuxes yes or no. I think we will do them this time. I skipped a couple of cruise and my friends want to do it so I will most likely schlep a tux across the US for one night :P It's fun every once in a while but have definitely gotten to a point where I don't bother most cruises.

Matt… thanks for clarifying that skywalkers is placed different and gives some shade in the smaller pool area. I’m not much a sun bunny but like to hang by the pools by the day. Glad to hear that haven’t totally eliminated a place to get out of the sun but still be outside-ish.

In my past experience these catamarans generally hold up to 50. I think that the 20 available is a default number that remains and only drops when filling the last of the spaces. I noticed most of the excursions were listed as 20 spaces.

Anyway, it is exciting to see that we already know potentially a 5th of the excursion passengers. If anyone is still thinking about it, pre-reserve now while you can and then if you decide it is not the best choice, then cancel before the penalty deadline. Better to have a place that you can cancel than to miss out all together.

Phil - only 2 months? Wow that is fast in comparison to my cruise in October 2005 with the other big company. I waited more than 10 for that one. 2 months will be awesome. You also convinced me: Tux it is though I may rent a shirt so I have one less thing to worry about ironing to perfection.

Something tells me that the byck swimming pool could be a ''dangerous'' place after dark;).

i can't find it at the website, but then we don't have our documents or booking number so that's probably why. how much is this mud thing?

oh, and about the "ripped and stripped underwear thing"....

my mother taught me to throw away my underwear once it was ripped and torn. hmmmm, have to get my husband to attack me, tear my undies and keep a pair.........LOL.........or maybe i can get a new pair ripped while on board..............<g>

Phil. . .yeah, I grew up in Saratoga, so I'm familiar with the Bay Area.

On my first two RSVP cruises--Enchanted Isle out of San Diego to Mexico and Enchanted Seas out of New Orleans to Western Caribbean, there were fireworks from the aft deck. Although they were old ships from the late 50's, I have fond memories of those cruises (I was still dealing with coming out and all that). I was terrified going on those cruises alone. It was also much easier to meet people, as there were only 700 or 800 passengers, and I liked the camaraderie. In some ways I liked it more: it was more personal and RSVP did give away more stuff (including lube and condoms), which I still have--the other stuff that is. There was also more of a "floating bathouse" environment, something RSVP is trying to get away from these days. I remember one of the staff hugging and kissing passengers as we disembarked.

Chris - thanks! I used to have thousands of posts, but when they switched to a whole new software in 2004, they had to reset our post counters. I have been cruise obsessed for a while now:)

Dave, you look familiar to me. Do you ever go to Jackhammer or Bills? And you can also call Princess and ask for your booking number. You just need to give them the sailing date, cabin, ship, etc. Sometimes you get a cranky rep who says you have to talk to your agent. Hogwash. Hang up and call back to get a different rep. You both will have the same booking number.

Phil - I'm with you - prefer a few minutes of sun, and then lots of shade. Thank goodness the bars usually have shaded seats :) Obviously with the shifting sun, the shadow of Skywalkers will change, but all the pictures I see, there seems to be a healthy dose of shade.

Steven - Queen of Bermuda was just an awful little ship, that we paid a fortune to be on, for the tiniest inside cabin, since we knew nothing about cruise travel. Our fellow passengers (this was a mainstream cruise) were rather cantakerous, and the food was just so rubber chicken. Having heard so much about the elegance of a cruise (since that was back when you did wear your tux, and wear a tie to dinner every night), it was just a huge let down. I do remember meeting two lovely older gentlemen - they were travel agents - who talked about how when RSVP did a charter on the ship it was a totally different experience, but I was just not at a point yet where I was going to do that kind of thing.

I'm beginning to think that Punxsutawney Phil might see his shadow tomorrow before we get to see the daily schedule posted on the RSVP website! I know there will be 6 more weeks of winter, but only 3+ weeks until the cruise!:)

Matt. . .interesting. Thanks for the response. I'm glad you decided to give cruising another try after that cruise.

My first cruises were wonderful experiences. The two early RSVP cruises I took were on the Enchanted Seas and Isle--old ships originally built in 1958 as cruise liners for Moore-McCormick Lines. They were steamships in every sense, and oh boy, did they pitch and roll. :( The accommodations were very modest by today's standards (i'm being kind there) and they did look like ships, not floating boxes. I do have fond memories of those cruises. There were two formal nights, and 99% percent of the passengers wore tuxedos, unlike today. It did make the evenings very elegant. Even a Mae West, dressed to the nines, made a grand entrance into the dining room one evening. I remember the food as being very good, in fact far, far better than on the Diamond Princess, with large portions of all the old cruise classics--Beef Wellington, caviar, Cherries Jubilee, etc. Cruising has changed, but not always for the better.

Hi All,

Has anyone talked to RSVP about posting the daily schedule? They must be very busy right now.

Have a great night!

I thought they told us by the 1st!! :p

Sorry anxious QUEEN here! haha We absolutely can not wait! 3 weeks from now the bags will be all packed and I will be finishing up all my work before I head out the door!

By the way... did anyone read about all the drama about Kimberly Locke and the "Screech" character from Saved by the Bell on the VH1 series "Celebrity Fit Club"???

4dx40vn.jpg

It's chaos on the set of VH1's hit show "Celebrity Fit Club," and TMZ has exclusive details on the multiple battles raging between its stars.

According to on-set sources, the first fight took place between medical/diet expert Dr. Ian and Ant, the show's host -- over a cigarette. We're told that during a break in filming, Dr. Ian exploded after Ant fired up a cancer stick in the doc's vicinity, and began shouting and threatening Ant with violence, forcing producers to immediately shut down production. We're told that after the two men were separated, egos were stroked, and both men got over the flare-up and production resumed.

Soon after, former child star-turned-porn-star Dustin Diamond allegedly threatened to "make a dildo of my c**k and f**k" former "American Idol" star Kimberly Locke with "it" during a heated on-set altercation. According to our sources, Locke, along with almost every member of the cast, including 80's pop star Tiffany, rap star Warren G and "Brady Bunch" star Maureen "Marcia" McCormick all stormed off the set. Only Ross the Intern stayed.

We're told that producers have exiled Dustin Diamond and he will no longer have any interaction with the cast. According to our source, the cast couldn't be happier with the Screeching halt.

Calls to VH1 have not been returned. A rep for Dustin has denied all allegations surrounding the actor.

Considering that Dustin tried to pay his mortgage by having people buy t-shirts and put out a porn film where he gives one of the girls a "dirty sanchez" (google it if you don't know the term) because he's basically lost all the money he earned on his TV show... nothing surprises me about him.

Steven - it really comes down to your fellow passengers and your attitude. You can be on a tug boat and have a great time. Back then I had built up expectations that were not met, so I was unhappy...and our fellow passengers were the "one foot in the grave" types... and I didn't know enough or wasn't mature enough to still try and make the best of it. On QE2, which is a glorified rust bucket with an extremely surly staff (at least our week), I still had a fun time because it was so cool to be doing a "historic" transatlantic crossing, and there were some really cool and fun people on board. Since RSVP chartered Queen of Bermuda back then (1989), I'm sure I would have had a different impression if I went one of those weeks. :)
