Ship Sponsored Golf Outings

I'm interested in any experiences people have had with cruise-sponsored golf outings in Ireland and Scotland. Many courses require a registered handicap with a local club; is that necessary with a ship's tour? Also, any comments on tour costs would be appreciated.

The only course I have played in Scotland where I have been asked for a handicap certificate in the last 35 years is The Old Course St Andrews.

Almost certain you will not be asked otherwise.

That said, many of the 'big' names ie St Andrews, Carnoustie, Turnberry etc need booking well in advance
