Teens on Celebrity

We've cruised on the RCCL side of things since '86 and a couple of times with our children over the past 5 yrs. Is there anyone out there that has tried X with their 12-16 year olds? We are considering a 5 day cruise and want to let the kids know what to expect. We don't mind a change of pace but do want to let the kids know what to expect.

Squarepants-

I took my two teens to Alaska this past summer on Mercury out of Seattle, and took them last year to the eastern Med on Galaxy. We had previous done RCI in the Western Caribbean. They have enjoyed all their cruises but the Mercury and Galaxy experiences where a little quieter and more formal. They enjoyed the food and service in the main dining rooms on Celebrity, the nightly entertainment and mountains of room service. The pool on Galaxy got lots of use in the Med when we were not in port. The pool on Mercury in Alaska was suitable only for penguins. The teens did enjoy the whale watching in Alaska from the ship, and the music in the lounges. There were lots more teens on Galaxy (Aug. '05) than Mercury (July '06). They have only done a limited amount of participation in the Celebrity teen programs aboard, but did enjoy them.

To liven things up, we are going back to RCI with a late August '07 Med Italy, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Egypt cruise on Legend. My son looks forward to golf, swimming in the pool and rock climbing on the boat, and eating/sightseeing ashore.

We took our then 12 yr old daughter on our cruise aboard Horizon. Because she was an older ship, there were no kids facilities geared towards that age group. However she made friends with quite a few kids her age that she met on board. They would simply hang out together--sometimes joining in with the organized kids program, and sometimes just by themselves.
