Noordam Embarkation Question

My husband and I are first-time cruisers, sailing on the Noordam out of NYC this Saturday. Our cruise documents say our boarding time is 1:30. I see lots of people here talking about arriving in the 10:30 to 11:00 range and being on the ship by noon or even earlier. If we show up earlier, will they let us board, or will we have to wait until our "assigned" time?

We live in NYC so we are just taking a taxi to the Pier and can arrive at any time, but I'd prefer to be on the ship for lunch if we can be.

If you board at 1:30, you get the white glove escorted welcome to your room, and you can still have lunch on board.

It's really up to you. If you board earlier you just eat lunch dragging your carry on's with you (as the room is not available).:)

Actually, it's not necessary to "drag your carry-on's with you" if you board before the cabins are ready. There will be a secure storage area for them.

As a matter of fact, when I sailed the Noordam the carry-on's I stored were delivered to my cabin---I didn't even have to go back and pick them up myself! That was neat. :)

On every other ship there's been a time frame of about 1/2 hour in which to pick up my stored carry-on after the cabins were cleared.

Welcome Aboard Ship Mates

We as well are going aboard, God Willing, as well. In boarding yes arriving with your Pre Filled Boarding Passes and Paperwork does help expedite things.

Boarding ships usually, at West Side Passsenger Cruise Ship Piers on the Hudson, starts at the point when all/most of the past passage passengers have left the ship and gone through US Customs.

We are shooting for 11- 11:30 am est boarding if possible that way there may be some of the wonderful Pork Dishes they only have the day of boarding too. If they have any food left from the last cruise guests that is...

The ms Noordam IV is a wonderful vessel and crewed well. Hoping you both like it and enjpoy the time.

I do invite you both to join all of us on Sunday in the Crows Nest, thats the best view and chairs on the ship, we have dedicated space reserved as well the Beverages and light snacks are being provided by Mrs. A.M.C Hawley and Holland American Line,Inc.

You may contact her as well, she is a wonderful hidden asset of HALs!

Sometimes the cabins are ready too. We've not boarded recently when they weren't. On our Med cruise in July, we boarded at about 11:00am and went strait to the cabins and left our carry-ons.

As Ruth mentions, you can also check them so you don't have to hang onto them - we've done that a time or two when we went directly to the Lido upon boarding.

Hope you enjoy the Noordam as much as we do! :)

Jonathan (AAAA) forgot to ask you to join our 11/25 Noordam roll call. There are two, so please join the main roll call, not the "Black Saturday" one. Roll calls are a separate section on the main menu for the boards.

I believe that the reception to which Jonathan refers, and which he set up, is at 3:30 on Sunday.
