Hotel Help in Honolulu

Will be on Pride of Hawaii in April '07. Can you recommend a hotel close by the Cruise Terminal in Honolulu?

We stayed at the Waikiki Marriott - probably the farthest away of any of the major hotels, but once there you can do all of your pre-boarding routine - pictures, cards, the whole enchilada. On the morning of your cruise, you leave your luggage in your room and either make your own way to the cruise terminal or take a NCL shuttle. The next time you see your luggage, it will be in your PoH cabin.

CAUTION - In order to get this service, you need to book the hotel thru NCL. I think they have a similar setup at a couple of other hotels.

Majority of hotels are in Waikiki, a few miles form the cruise terminal. Easy cab ride... I can give you recommendations (I live here!) but what is your price range? Waikiki hotels range from cheap to ridiculously expensive! :)

Bee Dub, try 1800hotels.com or another hotel search engine. Type in your criteria and it will show you what's available and map them out vs. your point of interest and you can see where they are all at. Hope this helps.

We will be staying at the Waikiki Marriott in December, which was booked through NCL. I have a few questions about the hotel.

Was your stay there enjoyable?

Is the Hotel near a beach? Accessable to shops and attractions.

Thank you,

Barb

Haven't stayed at the Marriott, but have stayed next door (ResortQuest Waikiki Beach) and behind (Waikiki Banyan).

Can tell you though that the Marriott is directly across the road from the beach (although if you are in the rear tower, it is probably a 100 metre walk to get there) and is at the end of the main shopping strip. The shops actually stretch over the best part of a mile, but all are in strolling distance.

Sounds great. Can't wait to get there.

Stay was pleasant. Room/location was as anticipated.

Depending on your room location, beach is between 50-250 yards away. Shops/restauarnts are everywhere. Most Oahu "attractions" will require a bus/cab/car but we found it rather easy to navigate around the city/island. (We did all of our Oahu sightseeing during a 4-day post-cruise stay.)

Best part was express check-in to the PoH. The "line" at the port for Marriott guests consisted of one couple in front of us. There were 8-10 people in the "handicapped" line, dozens in the "preferred-guests-double-diamond-deluxe-platinium-Latitudes" line and hundreds in the "regular folks" line. We walked right past all of them and were on the ship within a few minutes.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Sorry about the delay in replying, I lost track of this thread. Tank, we finally booked Waikiki Ohana West for Pre & Post stays through our Australian TA. I hope we won't be disappointed?

We just stayed at the Ohana West. It was a room would I stay there again probably not. The rooom was clean but worn. Tiles were missing out of the shower. The carpet was worn and wood work was missing out of the door. We had to run the water for the shower about five minutes before it got warm even then it was tolerable. I do agree on Deny's across the street the food was good and the service fast.

Flyod,

Just to let you know my wife and I won bids on Priceline in December of 2003 for two nights at the Hawaian Prince. The wife still talks about the wonderful bathroom at the Prince (Marble floors with a separate shower, separate tub area, separate make up area and a phone next to the toliet). We had a rental car and the hotel gave us a free pass for parking. There are plenty of parking spots in the Marina area except for late weekend nights. I emailed the hotel in advance and requested a ocean view if possible and we were on the 22nd floor with an oceanview. I hope you enjoy this Hotel as much as we did. Tim and Cathy

We have reservations at Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki. Does anyone have any information about this place? We got it for a good price and now I am getting worried that it might be too good a deal.

Any information would be appreciated. This will be the only trip we make to Hawaii and would hate to have a hotel mar it in any way.

LindaJeff,

I have a question about the pre check in at the Marriott which we have booked with NCL for our May cruise on Pride of Aloha.

The way I understand what you've said is that you have your photo taken and get your card that's your cabin key card & on board charge card , Right!.

Also one more question. Once you get to the port to board the ship do you go to a special line or do they escort you right on board the ship.

Thanks,

Marcy

Oh, ps. I heard or read somewhere that as you board the ship you get a hawaii flower. Is that true?

We were on the POH for the Dec 25 sailing, with a Marriott pre-stay. Although it's a different ship sitting at the pier, the system is the same.

When you check in at the Marriott, they take your picture, go through all the paperwork stuff, and give you a hotel room key, tickets for the shuttle to the pier, and a voucher for picking up your ship card at the pier. They will also give you instructions about where & when to leave your luggage out in your hotel room on embarkation day (it gets automatically transferred to your cabin on the ship).

When you get off the shuttle at the pier, get into the shorter security line, the one that leads to the door that says "Marriott guests & crew entrance" (unless by some chance the main line is shorter...which line you use really doesn't matter). After you get through security, look for the desk that says "Marriott guests card pickup" or something to that effect. There should be virtually no line. :) Give them your voucher and show them your id. They'll give you your ship card (boring white, no picture...but they're all like that) and make you sign the back in black sharpie. That takes all of about 3 minutes.

Then, go up the escalator towards the ship. On the way to the gangway, you will run into crew members distributing shell and/or flower leis, and you'll have to navigate through the ever-present NCL photography gauntlet. When you reach the gangway, the crew member on duty will swipe your card through their reader and then you're on board and headed for the buffet...:)

Check out this link. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60982-d87040-Reviews-Ocean_Resort_Hotel_Waikiki-Honolulu_Oahu_Hawaii.html

Its a page showing reviews of the hotel. They currently have an overall rating of 3 out of 5. Its ranked number 48 out of 84 hotels listed on TripAdvisor in Honolulu. I've used this site to check hotels in the past and havent had a problem with them. You just have to read the reviews, check out the dates (some of the old reviews may no longer be valid), and take each one with an open mind since its opinion based. Sometimes people stay the same weekend and have totally different experiences. I just try to take an overall view of the place since things could be perfect or a complete mess on the day you're checking in.

My understanding is that you have to reserve your rooms through NCL directly to get this privilege - and NCL quoted me $349/night per room. YIKES!

I'm pretty confident that the $200/per room (x 3 in our case) I'm saving will outweigh the hassle of getting a cab and waiting in line to get checked in.

There are a LOT of options for accomodations in Waikiki... I am sort of surprised that NCL's rate is as high as it is, and in this case... even higher than the rate I can get if I go direct.
