Waikiki Trolley

The Waikiki Trolley tends to mostly go from Wailiki to various shopping centres/outlets. TheBus on the other hand covers the whole island and has a good regular timetable as well as cheap fares ($2 per ride anywhere and a free transfer/return within 2 hours). We used it often, even to take us to/from Pearl Harbour ... it was a far far cheaper option than using a tour company that most people used.

We only caught the Trolley once, back from Ala Moana Shopping Centre - it also cost $2 - and it was chock full of Japanese tourists. It seemed that the Trolley is there pretty much for and mostly used by Japanese tourists heading to/from the shops. They apparently get a unlimited travel ticket as part of their holiday package.

The Trolley also sells tourist pass - I think about $25 for unlimited rides over 4 days - but it is a rip off, given the very limited routes the trolley covers.

Yes, you can BUT they don't let take luggage onto TheBus. My wife bought an extra case at the Aloha Market and although empty and able to be put on her lap, still got chipped by the driver. At least he let her on the bus.

If you are still interested in getting the bus to Honolulu Harbor, catch either Route 19 (Airport-Hickam) or Route 20 (Airport-Pearlridge) from Waikiki and alight at Alakea Street and Nimitz Hwy. Just cross Nimitz Hwy and you are at Aloha Marketplace where the ship docks. See www.thebus.org for more info.

Cheers

Bob
