MA 2 VA Posted December 4, 2006 #102 Share Posted December 4, 2006 I may have missed it in the first hundred post. Does anyone know who the cruise director is? If not, can you enlighten us Shoreguy? Thanks. Enjoy your trip.

shoreguy Posted December 4, 2006 Author #104 Share Posted December 4, 2006 10 am Dec 4 Ships speed 20.4 knots – seas down to 6-8 meters, winds 35-40 knots – getting better. May be some of the passengers and crew that have not left their cabins will start to appear. The ship is not full only about 2000 passengers and good percentage of them have been a bit under the weather. The dealers in the casino looked very green in their yellow shirts. I did notice a few of them had what looked like lunch bags close at hand. Not sure why they would have those J Last night was La Cucina for dinner. About every 10 minutes a plate, glass, or set of silverware would slide of the fake wood tables and crash to the floor. A high chair (empty) made the trip from the front all the way to the back of the restaurant with one pitch of the ship. Klaus and Sean stopped by the table doing the rounds. Next thing we new a bottle of wine appeared on the table. My son was disappointed as you all know Chicken Parm is no longer on the menu but they do have a dish with a breaded chicken breast. Using my best problem solving skills I came up with a plan. I felt like Jack Nicolson in 5 Easy Pieces ordering toast. Can we have the breaded chicken dish plain, now can you put that on a plate covered with tomato sauce, and finally if it is not too much trouble could you melt some cheese on top. It was great. Just got a call from Colleen the GSC – more people wanting to join the bowling tournament I have not even set up yet – bowling at sea for 40 on two lanes. A CC’s work is never done Now where was I – after diner we where going to Bliss. Before we went I wanted a smoke. Outside was not an option. Headed for the lobby – No Smoking. Finally ended up at he Maltings (Star Bar would have been closer had I been thinking clearly). Stood next to as it turns out some of GAR contractors setting up the lighting for the shows and Rudi Macaggi from Americas got Talent. Snorkeling Barb showed up. One of the new shows I believe is an oldie “Sea Legs” Nobody know yet what shows what nights it all depents on the Seas. The even canceled the first day of Bingo !!!!!! Needless to say never made it back to Bliss and since the Casino was so close and just about empty we stopped for a short 3 hour run – Casino was much better to me. Coffee machine is telling me to ventilate – anyone know how – I need another double espresso. Captain promised this morning in couple days we will be able to enjoy the furniture poolside. star7228 Posted December 4, 2006 #110 Share Posted December 4, 2006 Thanks for the updates...wish we could have been there too. Ever think about changing your name to Ship-to-Shoreguy??? Hey Dragonfly cruiser! I saw your post and avatar and had to ask if you've noticed the carpeting in the Pearl's Stardust Theater? I have an affinity for dragonflies (throughout my house and garden :)). I fell in love with the Stardust's carpeting, as it looks to be flowers and dragonflies. I thought it was beautiful. I thought you might appreciate it! Shoreguy, can you confirm if this is the case? Sorry to all others who don't have an opinion on dragonflies for this seemingly random post/question! :D
Rare Host CMLA Posted December 4, 2006 #111 Share Posted December 4, 2006 and maybe when Klaus talks to him since I did share the story last night at dinner he may get a hint... Wow...I can't believe you did this to the guy that runs the bar. Now that he's been singled out by you, who knows all the execs on the ship, I'm sure his ship life will be more uncomfortable and could get him in lots of trouble. I'm not saying that the staff members should pass the buck however I don't think he deserved to be tattled on. Not the right thing to do in my opinion. But it's, of course, your prerogative to handle it any way you want. :( What a great thing to have direct access to Klaus and you use your time with him to get that guy in trouble. And to also get Klaus to act so fast. That's some clout. Couldn't you have told Klaus about the inconvenience of getting quarters without tattling on the guy that runs the bar? I apologize for my blatant sarcasm but it bothers me very much that you decided to get this guy in trouble just because he didn't know how to fix the quarter situation. You, as well as everyone, knows that onboard is a cashless system. The only place cash exists is in the casino. You have no idea what this guy's situation is or what his career aspirations are but you told on him to Klaus to make sure he gets a talking to.

Stillfloatin' Posted December 4, 2006 #116 Share Posted December 4, 2006 Cecilia, I don't think Shoreguy was throwing his weight around to get this guy in trouble. I believe he was properly addressing an unhelpful attitude that needed to be corrected in this employee. NCL prides itself on the friendly HELPFUL service it provides to customers and this bar guy just wasn't providing it. His attitude needed to be corrected and I think Shoreguy addressed that issue. After all, this is NCL's newest ship and expectations are very high. All staff should be on their very best behavior and if this was the bar guy's best behavior, then who knows how much worse it will get after he's been working a few months ? In my opinion, your response was too harse and unfair to Shoreguy.

In this case SG did. Now, he's getting some heat becasue he knows 'the higher ups'. Nonsense, IMO. Anyone can get to those guys and lodge a complaint or concern. Isn't it folly to have rides that are inconvenient to use? When he commented on it, the employee used bad judgement, by giving an unhelpful answer and taking a swipe at his boss. I say give Shoreguy the benefit of the doubt, he's very personable and knows how to get things done.
seahorse Posted December 4, 2006 #118 Share Posted December 4, 2006 IMO....not taking sides in the issue of the bar guy....but, I do know that staff is monitored very closely and that any direct complaints, whether justified or not can get a staff member "fired".:( I do hope that there was a reasonable "benefit of doubt" due to staff and passengers being under the weather due to the weather;) I believe in giving people a third chance on any situation. I would have gone back and checked out his "attitude" on another day:)

He should have escalated the matter to HIS manager and shown a little team work (and aspiration, as you mentioned, to move forward in his career). Instead he grumbled about his manager indirectly, saying that "if HE were in that position, he would chanage a lot of things". That was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. He is in a customer service position and needs to remember that first and foremost. Badmouthing his manager and NCL is completely out of line. Sorry, but the same would have rubbed me the wrong way, too. I, like all you cruisers, enjoy the excellent service provided on cruise ships. A large factor in that service is a customer service culture that the barkeep obviously did not subscribe to.

I have no idea what the repercussions will be however the tone of this and maybe when Klaus talks to him since I did share the story last night at dinner he may get a hint...  sounds like someone was making sure this bar guy would be called out. I personally don't think the bar guy was out of line or unhelpful in any way. He passed on the correct information for how to get quarters. Just because it wasn't what SG wanted to hear after his two martinis doesn't mean the guy should be labeled as unhelpful or as a guy that "will never be HD" as SG assumes. In a two minute conversation SG summed up the guy's chances of advancing with NCL, etc. Anyone can disagree with my opinion. But it doesn't change my opinion and as so many of you say, everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it goes against someone you all like.

Rare Host CMLA Posted December 4, 2006 #124 Share Posted December 4, 2006 You're opinion is fine, but twice now you've commented on his 'connections'. Yes, because Shoreguy keeps name dropping who he talks to about what. Shoreguy's connections onboard aren't a secret. He's the first to tell you who to talk when you have a problem. Until now, everyone has praised and thanked Shoreguy for who he knows and who can help them. Now I should keep hush hush because I disagree with something? LEET44 Posted December 4, 2006 #125 Share Posted December 4, 2006 That’s the way it works” I asked who can fix that and he said not him but if he was Hotel Director he would fix lots of things. I suggested if he wants to be Hotel Director he should start buy figuring out how to fix things he is responsible for. It was the employee who brought up the subject of the HD. I am sorry but he should have never answered a guest that way.he does not seem like a happy employee and is really complaining to SG. What is wrong with this .The fact that he has a relationship with the HD and can talk to him without putting in a formal complaint is without a doubt the way to go. It is apparent that this person has issues or he would have never responded that way. This is become a debate and it should be a blog about a cc members cruise.Wait till he gets home to start debating.
