Which Princess Ships...

Check the deck plans on the Coral/Island ships. They are easier to get around. The Sapphire/Diamond decks can be somewhat confusing for going up one deck to get to another deck just as you mentioned.

Caribbean Princess is a great ship and worth looking into. The only area that you would have to walk up and down decks would be if you are trying to get to the aft pool and bar. That is because of the layout they have chosen for the kids area. If you don't plan on going back there much, then you wouldn't even realize it.

I think all the Grand-class ships have the traditonal dining room on Deck 6 that you can only get to if you go all the way aft on Deck 7 and then down. If you have anytime dining, it's not an issue.

I can't think of any "you can't get there from here" type issues on the Sun-class ships or the Tahitian/Pacific.

The only problem I have on some ships is knowing which way it forward and which is aft. I have to look out the window. Other than that, I don't have a problem getting around any of them. With that said, the smaller ships will be easier than the larger ships.

Which Princess Ships are easier to get around?

We would like to try Princess but we don't like the "you can't get there from here" type ships. i.e. Erroneous dead ends; go up a deck, go across, go down a deck to get somewhere.

Unfortunatley ships are ships and they all contain some deadends, decks to nowhere and the like.

As stated I think the Coral/Island are great to navigate, but I would not complain about the Grand Class ships like some people do. They are the infamous "you can't get there from here" ships with sevaeral areas like that. Does not bother me. :)

The only ship I didn't care for the set up was Carnival Destiny.

I was thinking of the Emerald and had read reviews about her sister ship the Crown and it seemed the one thing that people were complaining about was the up one floor, over, down another floor. If that's all their complaining about that's a good thing :) I've been on webshots looking at all the Princess ships and I'm leaning towards the Caribbean Princess. Is this a good ship for my first Princess cruise?

In my opinion the CP is absolutely a great ship. In fact, any "Grand" class ship is exactly that! I like variety as you may have noticed, and I believe these ships offer you what I refer to as " some of each".

Each being: Style, Fun , Elegance, Class, Excitement, Activities, Amenities, along with a Diverse passenger mix.

Others offer more of some and less of another. You won't be dissapointed.

I absolutely agree with this statement!!!!

I am SO impressed with CB, and I have other companies/ships to compare.

I would've never guessed that I could be that impressed during 7th cruise in 4 years.

CB was our only Princess ship we have been on and we had so much fun that we cruised her the following year as well. If it wasn't for me wanting to try RCCL again (it was our first cruise and I wanted a fresh comparison) we probably would have cruised Princess again. We are cruising RCCL two times next year but Princess will definitely be in our future. The CB is a beautiful ship and I am sure you will love her.

The Grand Class (Golden, Star, Caribbean, Grand) are easy to get around.

There are two main decks that you can use to get anywhere.

1) The Promenade deck goes to the theatre, lounges, showbar and the atrium. The shops and the anytime dining rooms are off the atrium 1 or 2 decks down, but there are plenty of elevators there.

2) The Lido deck goes to two of the pools (and there are pool lifts) and the buffet restaurant, bar, hamburger grill and pizza counter, and the Movies Under the Stars (if your chosen ship has it)

The outside Promenade wraps all the way around the ship, but changes decks to go around the bow (but you can cross the ship to avoid this bit)

Basically, you can stay on the Lido deck all day, and on the Promenade deck all evening after dinner.

No modern ships can have true dead ends..... all passenger spaces must have two exits.

I have been on the Star, and as far as getting about it can drive you crazy. For example, if you have early seating, you are in big trouble getting to your dining room. By the way, on sea days was is only ONE of the three restaurants open, I recall being in one line up where it reached INTO the casino. Maybe that was the plan, to get a little more money from us all.

I will not detail the chaos whe Princess tried to load thirty three full sized busses in fifteen minutes from ONE gangway, just do the math! Lets just put it this way, the ship was a whole hour late leaving port, since our tour was over an hour late getting back.

Stay to smaller ships, the cruises are normally a lot less stressful. john

I have been on the Sun, Dawn, Star, Caribbean and Coral and I must say I prefer the Coral. I loved all the ships and love cruising but the Coral was my favorite. Also look at the color of the carpeting to know which way to walk to find your room. Enjoy your cruise. There isn't a looser in the bunch.
