Hilton Hotel Fort Lauderdale ?

We have reservations at the Hilton Hotel FLL for a couple of nights post cruise in April 2007....We made a reservation through our TA way back in May of this year. I have been watching the hotel Web Site with interest and I notice that it is still not yet open. The site now says bookings being taken from Feb 2007....It used to say August 2006 !

For anyone with any knowledge of this hotel/area should we be concerned that the Hotel is still going to be in the process of being built when we arrive, Can you tell us how it is looking and any opinions you may have on its progress/location etc will be greatly appreciated, also are there any nice places to eat near the hotel. We have only visited FLL once before, staying at the Pelican Beach resort, which we loved but found it a bit out of the way for anyone without a car (like us). So we are not really familiar with the area.

We are travelling from the UK and really appreciate all the help etc that we receive from the CC boards.

Many thanks

It's coming along as well as can be. The nearby St.Regis was supposed to open in December and that opening was pushed back to March. The Hilton is still hiring staff to begin employ in January so it would appear that they will meet their scheduled February opening date. It should be fully operational by April with all of the kinks worked out.

For fine dining, the nearby Atlantic Hotel has Trina Restaurant, truly exceptional fare. Shula's is a short stroll just south of your hotel. Excellent steaks. Theres plenty of places nearby to grab a bite to eat.

You can get around the area on the cheap using the Sun Trolley.

Be sure to explore the intracoastal on the water taxi if time permits.
