Is anyone planning a trip for China's Cultural Delights departing June4, 2007?

We are two months ahead of you, leaving for Beijing on 4/7, with the Guilin-Hong Kong add-on. Do you go upstream or downstream?

Going from Beijing to Shanghai then to Guilin and Hong Kong

I assume we are going down stream??

I agree. Plus I'm not sure the Hong Kong add-on is available if you go the other way. Have you river cruised before?

The first river cruise we took was last year from Amsterdam to Budapest on Amadeus Princess. It was a great trip, which I would recommend.

For anyone contemplating a trip to China in 2008 I would recommend that you keep in mind that the 2008 Olympics are being held in Beijing August 8-24, 2008. After experiencing the crowds (mostly vacationing Chinese) in Beijing in September, 2005, I cannot imagine what it will be like during the times surrounding the Olympics.

 

I would think it likely that some people hoping to see Olympic events will be trying to combine that adventure with a trip or tour to other parts of China either before or after the games. This is likely to have a serious effect upon available airline capacity (and prices) during that period.

 

If you are serious about going during the summer of 2008 it would be a good idea to book space with guaranteed air included as soon as possible.

 

Having said all of that, by all means visit China! It was one of the most exciting and interesting trips we have taken and tourists (and their dollars!) and warmly received.
