Can you get an upgraded to oceanview booking an inside guarantee?

I had two Carnival PVP's tell me you could only get upgraded to an inside room if you book an inside guarantee? I think I read a Glory review this weekend and someone mentioned getting upgraded to an Oceanview that booked an inside guarantee?

We booked an inside guarantee for Glory 3/31/07. We had to book a 4A to get a discounted group rate and there were no 4A's left, so we did an inside guarantee. I've never done an inside guarantee on Carnival, so I'm a little nervous. I'm also nervous b/c it is a 7 day cruise. I think it might be worth it if we got upgraded to an oceanview but if this is not possible, I'm going to keep my eye out and see if any 4A's open up. I am a very light sleeper and worried about ending up in a really bad location.

Any thoughts on booking inside guarantees in general????

if you read these boards it seems everyone gets upgraded to a higher category--but cruise critic members represent less then 1% of the sailing public. Most upgrades happen within categories. so if you book a inside more then likly that is what you get.

It does happen but it is rare that you get upgraded to the higher category.

booking a guarantee 4A is what you will get but could get a 4 B, C or d.

If you would be disappointed in an inside, don't book an inside guarantee because chances are, you'll get an inside.... NEVER book anything lower than you would be happy with. I always book a guarantee, and have never been upgraded to a different category... it's not as common as you would think...

The last time I cruised with Carnival. My husband and I had an inside cabin and we received a bacony. I was happy, but my husband was thrilled. I enjoy taking an afternoon nap in total darkness, but my husband enjoyed the bacony. We have cruised many times with Carnival and we alway get upgraded in the same cat., until the last time. I am happy with any room as long as it's on a ship.

I am fine with an inside. I would have chosen an inside 4A (we can only book a 4A, 6A or 8A to get our group rate), but there were no 4A's available when I booked this morning. This evening it looks like there is one 4A available, so I'm just debating about taking the assigned 4A where I know we're only near cabins, beside and above us or taking a chance with ending up with an inside on a higher deck but in a crappy location. It seems like a lot of people say you can hear the casino, piano bar etc. above them....

But if there is a possibility we might get upgraded even more, I might keep the guarantee.

Oh the risk of an upgrade vs. being a control freak and knowing where my cabin is!!!!

Watch the price of the cruise. If the rate goes down you may be able to get an upgrade instead of an OBC. We booked a Inside guaranteed and I watched the prices. They indeed went down so I was upgraded to the higher category. The price went down so much that we actually still paid $30 more pp than someone booking later. I was just happy to get the upgrade. It was also after final payment and I had to talk to several customer service people through my TA to get it done.

I booked a 4A guarantee and got upgraded to a 7A obstructed balcony. The obstruction was a lifeboat below my stateroom. It was great. My next cruise I am going solo so I booked a 1A guarantee and when I checked the website I was upgraded to a 4B. You just never know.

DH and I booked 1 week before sailing on the Holiday. We booked a 4A guaranty and to my surprise we had a window on the Riveria Deck. It is our 6th cruise on a Carnival ship, don't know if that had anything to do with it or not, but I was thrilled.

We were on the Legend in September... our balcony room was directly below the buffet. I think the only time we heard anything from upstairs was the night of the deck party, and that was only because we had opened our door. Every once in a while you could hear some music if you're in the room in the middle of the afternoon... but that was rarely the case.

Good luck to you!! :)

We booked an inside guarantee on the Victory two years ago and I guess we got exactly what we paid for--Riveria deck--the absolute last cabin in the back. It was ok for the most part--just a long walk to the dining room and other areas of the ship and it was quite noisy early in the morning the day we arrived back in Miami. All in all, the price was excellent so we didn't mind. It would have been nice to have been upgraded, but we survived.

How do you check your cabin # on the website? If I've booked through a TA will I only be able to find out from her? Or is it like RCCL where you can see it right on the website when a cabin is assigned?

since you booked using a TA instead of CArnival you cant see the stuff online. If youhave your documents it will be listed on the back page of the sign and sail application on the bottom. Look for the long string of numbers -- the first set of numbers is your booking number--immediately following that is your cabin number.
