We had a wonderful Eastern cruise on Glory! The crew was so nice, ship was very clean, and had fun in the ports.

Wee Jimmy was the CD and kept us laughing all week long. You have to catch his Dolly Parton act in the Legends show!

I'll post a review later this week in this thread, have to catch up on laundry and sleep first.

Questions?

We leave Saturday on the Glory so am anxious to read your review. I have read about Wee Jimmy on these boards and am excited that he will be our CD - at least I hope he is and doesn't leave before next week. How was the weather on your cruise? Also, was the ship full? Looking forward to reading your review. :D TG23

The weather was good except the last full day, which was windy. All outside activities had to be cancelled. No rain all week!

The ship was full, so there were some lines at certain times. We got around this by going at off times. We also found that some buffet lines were always shorter, try Lido aft outside for breakfast.

Wee Jimmy was a highlight of the cruise, we watched him on TV while in the cabin at night, since we didn't go to all the activities. (Impossible, there are so many!)

I'll get the review out in a day or 2, promise!

Then there will be a longer review with pics on our website- waiting for pics from friends who went with us to do that.

Hi CCartman2, I noticed you will be on the Glory on 02/10/07. I was wondering if you had looked at the Roll Call for the Glory for 02/10/07.

We have a great group going and we are having a "meet and greet", on Sunday 02/11/07 at the kalidiscope Bar near the casino @ 11:30 am and would love to have you join us.:p

We have some first timers and some old timers so you might have fun. Is this your first time on the Glory?:D

Thanks for the information. Will be waiting anxiously for your full review. Any mention of how long Wee Jimmy will be the CD? How was the food? What excursions did you do? Any tips or hints about the ship would be greatly appreciated. I sail on Glory in 61 days!!!:D

Looking forward to going Eastern on the Glory in June ... I wonder if Wee Jimmy will still be the CD. The first time I was on the Glory (inaugeral passenger voyage), he was an assistant CD to John Heald.

We are going on the Eastern in June too. Leaves 6/23 I think. We did the same one last year on the Glory and loved it. It is truly our favorite.

First time on the Glory and 2nd time on a cruise in general. Really loved my first one on the Imagination, so I started planning the 2nd one as soon as I got back from that one. I'll be traveling with my wife and my parents (it'll be their 3rd cruise with a 4th one on the way). I just did check out the roll call today. Thanks.

Hi Sally.

My apologies for not getting to meet you and your hubby! We got into Cape Canaveral very late on Friday night and everyone was dog tired.

I did see you guys a couple times on board, and when Michael was smoking his cigar on our first sea day down on the Lido deck (a week ago at this time!) I asked him to find out your names. Sure enough it was you! If Bryce hadn't been asleep in my lap, I'd have gotten up to formally intro myself and the boys.

Those of you lucky enough to be cruising the Glory in the near future - I am jealous and you are very lucky! The ship was super clean, the food was great, the crew was spectacular, and the weather was near perfect. I too will post a review in the near future.

Lis.

Dominocat, we were on the 9/2/06 sailing on the Glory and were told it was Mark Price's last as CD. I am so excited to hear that Wee Jimmy was assigned to the Glory! We've seen him every summer since 7/03 the inaugural when he was indeed learning from John Heald, the best. In September we had Mark Price as CD, Marlys from Australia running Sports Trivia which DH loved, and Joe from Blacksburg VA in the Cinnabar who was great. Doogie the assistant is now on the Inspiration, I read. All were terrific.

Guest LADY TORTOLA

Does anyone know how long Wee Jimmy will be on the Glory?? How were the showtimes, were they accessiable for everyone or were they still 7pm and 9pm?? We are traveling on the Glory in March and that is the only thing we are concerned about having to rush our afternoon and getting back on the ship to get dressed quickly to see a show before dinner rather than after dinner like we have greatly enjoyed in the past. I can't wait to hear you review!!

We flew to Orlando on Friday morning, 2 couples, and rented a car from Budget. Have one person get in line for the rental right away, the line was long.

We went to Kennedy Space Center & took the NASA Up Close tour- we purchased tickets on line & picked up at will call. Worth the money, we all loved it.

Spent the night at Radisson, met some people from our roll call at the Tiki Bar, very nice place, but you can't see the ships from here.

Dropped the car at Budget & took their shuttle to the ship. Driving around here is very easy, everything is on the same road!

Embarkation was easy, we were first in line after VIPs, took about an hour to get on the ship (noon). We had lunch & drinks, explored the ship, met our steward Jose when the rooms were available about 1:30. We were in 7434 which is an odd shaped room with a double size balcony & our friends were just in front of us, so we got the divider opened & had a huge balcony, where we spent a lot of relaxing time all week.

Had a table for 4 in Golden DR, 6:15 seating. Great team- thanks, Jaime & Marcia! The very handsome asst. MD, Igor, came by every night, we ladies fell in love!

Favorite bartender was Rudy- met him on Lido aft, and he was also our dining room bartender!

Ports- we never rushed to get off the ship, we booked no excursions, didn't want to rush anywhere!

In Nassau we were off by 9:30, walked to the straw market & Senor Frog's, then shopped our way back to the ship by 12:30.

This was Captain's Party & first formal, you've got to go to Captain's party to see Wee Jimmy in his kilt! Show times were 7 & 9 as usual, we saw Livin' in America, enjoyed it.

St Thomas- Immigration was very fast-we went to Paradise Point & saw the parrot show, shopped a little, ate lunch on the ship & went to Coki Beach. The taxi driver gave us a little tour on the way back to the ship.

St Maarten- our favorite! Went to Orient Beach. We settled at El Mexicano which offerred 2 chairs, an umbrella, & 2 drinks for $8, plus a free shot of tequila with lunch! Great people, comfy chairs, beautiful beach. We shopped a bit here & then got off the taxi in town, shopped a bit more & had a drink. Walked back to the ship, about 15 minutes.

On Fun Days At Sea, we watched the deck games & relaxed. I got to be in Survivor, it was fun even though I got voted off before the end!

We watched Wee Jimmy on TV for the parts we missed, like the Newlywed game, etc. He was the best CD we ever had & really added to the trip!

Disembarkation started slowly, but really picked up when they started calling decks. We breezed through customs. Luggage was on carousels like an airport instead of piled up, worked great!

I hope I answered your questions, let me know if I missed anything. I can look in the Capers but I don't have scan capability.

This was our 4th cruise, biggest ship yet- you really get a lot of exercise just walking around the ship!

Thanks for a great review. :D We leave on the Glory this Saturday. Sounds like boarding is a lot like Galveston - very easy and fast. We have 6:15 dining so we will be in the Golden DR also. I am excited that Wee Jimmy is our CD. I have read so much about him on these boards. We had Malcolm Burns as CD on the Conquest and we really liked him, too (Woo Hoo - his signature saying!). Just hoping the weather stays nice. We are due cold, sleet, rain, etc. here in the DFW metroplex this week. Ready for the Caribbean. Thanks again for a great review. TG23

Thanks for the information Sally!!!

I have asked this question on a few occasion but haven't had a solid answer yet. This is a long shot but do you know what limits they offer at the poker table?

Also, I know they have blackjack tournaments but can you check your capers and see if they list a poker tournament?

Thanks a ton!!!

Justin

Justin,

No poker tournaments, although the did have a Texas Hold'em table.

Slots & Blackjack were the only tournaments listed.

I don't know what the limits are, but you could go to Ocean Players Club on line & email the casino host.

We did that & got Bon Voyage decorations in our cabin!

Lis,

Sorry we never hooked up. My DH said you were in the watermelon eating contest!

Is your DH the one who has a Big Green Egg grill?

Hi Sally!

I remember seeing you and your group in the dining room. Jaime, Marcia and Rudy were also taking care of us. We were at table 208, a table for 8 but it was only my 6 family members (myself, husband, 5 yo daughter, 8 yo son and both my parents) there each night. We thought the crew was exceptional, the best we've ever had! My kids especially loved Marcia and did the conga line around the dining room with her. We spoke with Marcia alot on the Lido deck too and she is amazing! Jaime did a great job, always giving us great recommendations and entertaining the kids. And Rudy always had their sodas ready for them when we sat down. On Thursday night, they sang Happy Birthday to my daughter which was so special to her; I'll never forget the look on her face. This was the first cruise for the kids and they loved it!

We also did not book any excursions and just went out on our own (my husband and I had been to all 3 islands before so we felt comfortable going out on our own). In Nassau, we took the water taxi and let the kids play on the beach near the Atlantis. The waves were quite strong so they only played at the edge but had a great time anyway. It was a beautiful place. St. Thomas was kind of a letdown for us from our past experiences. We just wanted to go spend time at Magen's Bay since DH and I had been there 3 other times and never visited "one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world". The beach was GREAT but getting there and back was the problem. First, all of the taxi drivers at the port were arguing with each other and just came across rude. Our driver gave us a rate of $8pp to Magen's Bay ($4pp to downtown and $4pp from downtown to Magen's), but stopped the van after he'd let others off in town to try to convince us to go to a different beach. He said the water would be too high and rough at Magen's but we are used to the rough ocean at the Outer Banks of NC and again we finally wanted to see Magen's. The water was fine, not rough at all to us, and we had no trouble finding a place on the beach. We were not happy when we learned that the return trip to downtown was the same price as returning to the ship ($8pp). So if we chose downtown, we would have to pay an additional $4pp to return to the ship. We decided to go back to the ship and the driver let me, my mom, dad and the kids off at the Havensight shops where I went ahead and paid our entire fare then, including my husband who was riding on to the ship. I made sure the driver knew my husband was already paid and he said no problem but sure enough he was asking for his full fare when they got to the ship. After alot of arguing, the driver finally realized he wasn't getting anymore and left. My husband's blood pressure didn't need that! Anyway, future cruisers beware. We all absolutely loved St Maarten. The port is so much nicer and prettier! We again took the water taxi across ($5pp unlimited, children 12 & under free!) and got 4 beach chairs and 2 umbrellas for $20 right there on the beach at Great Bay. I know other beaches are nicer but this one was great for us, and we didn't have to deal with taxi drivers again. Water was clear and warm, lots of seaweed in some places but not where we were; rented jetski for $40/half hour; kids had a blast and we all just enjoyed ourselves and got some great pictures with Glory in the background. Shopping was right there for us after we got too much sun. Days at sea flew by for us. DD loved Camp Carnival and would have stayed there 24/7 if she could. DS liked it too but didn't spend as much time there because he was afraid he would miss something with us. Wee Jimmy was hilarious! Our cabin stewardess was Wijit from Thailand, also the best stateroom service we've ever had (her contract was up at the end of our cruise so you won't be seeing her for a couple of months). We were in cabins 2390 and 2392, connecting rooms which was great because we left the doors open during the day making our space seem so much larger. Glory was also the biggest ship we'd ever been on and for the first time, I actually lost weight while cruising instead of gaining the 2 to 4 pounds like in the past. Yeah!

Future Glory cruisers, have fun and tell Marcia from South Africa if you see her that my children, Will and Sarah, said hello from North Carolina!
