travel1 Posted January 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2007 I just read a thread posted about the Sapphire Cruise (1/23). It said that the weather was cold and seas rough (35 ft) and to bring warm clothes. We are leaving tomorrow for the 2/4 cruise and have packed only light jackets, shorts etc. Can anyone be of help ? It said that theweather was cold and seas rough (35 ft) and to bring warm clothes. We are leaving tomorrow for the 2/4 cruise and have packed only light jackets, shorts etc. Can anyone be of help ? We cruised Jan 2005 on Sapphire this itinery and will also be on Feb 4 trip Know well your packing problem. There will no doubt be a mixture of weather....days in Sydney & Melbourne probably hot, Hobart mild, two days crossing the tasman sea could be a bit rough and weather not the best. New Zealand probably best described as changeable. But overall it should be reasonably mild this time of year. Pack your shorts and light weight gear, but take at least one woolly jumper and/or warm jacket. Also consider a lightweight raincoat. Whatever the weather you will enjoy. Sea days there are plenty of things to do - if its not sunny arouind one of the pools the inside activities will keep you amused. cheers

Aussie Gal Posted February 2, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2007 Our forecast for the next four days is 31C, 31C, 38C and 38C. February in Melbourne is our hottest month and it looks like it is going to live up to that. But then again we can have a cool change and the weather can be in the low 20's or even cooler. Of course New Zealand is a lot cooler and you need to be prepared for that type of weather. The Tasman sea can be calm or rough. This week it was rough due to a low pressure. You just need to be prepared and dress in layers. Jennie
Dorset Cruiser Posted February 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2007 It was really rough over the Tasman on the 23/1 cruise but apparently, the cruise before from Sydney to Auckland was really calm. The NZ weather was quite cold and rainy but it did not stop us getting out sightseeing. You will be fine as long as you have a lightweight waterproof coat. Tasmania, Melbourne and Sydney were all really, really hot - wonderful after the chill of NZ. Hope you have a fantastic time - we certainly did!!:D :D :D

I'm layering but anything above zero will be great-we've had very cold temps in Northern Maine and windy-so we're looking for warmth.
