Transportation to and from the ship

Hi all,

My wife, son and I will be taking the 7 day Disney cruise that leaves on March 3rd. Really excited. It's our first cruise. We've arranged for DCL to fly us into Orlando. From reading this forum, it appears that DCL has buses that run from Orlando to Port Canavaral where the ship is docked. Does it cost anything to ride the bus? Will we see DCL signs and bus's in evidance at the airport? Do we need to show any documentation to prove were elidgable for the bus?

Thanks in advance,

The Disney transfers are $35 per person each way. Your TA can have the transfers added if you want to do that. You will receive a transportation voucher. There will be a DCL rep waiting with a sign just outside baggage claim to direct you to the bus.

For just a bit more, you can have private transportation ... without having to wait for others to fill up a bus. http://www.happylimo.com is one such company.

Sailordude...you should have worked with a travel agent! Since you booked your air with Disney (per your other post), your transfers are included. If you fly in the day of cruise (not day prior) you will put your Disney luggage tags on your bags before checking them at your home airport; you won't have to touch them in Orlando, Disney does that for you! You, Mrs. SailorDude and little Alex will be greeted by DCL representatives after you exit the airport monorail and enter the main terminal. They'll escort you to the lower level where you will board a motor coach to Port Canaveral. On board the motorcoach, you'll watch a video which will whet your appetite for the amazing cruise experience which awaits you. You will have long since forgotten your forever lost $85 on Alex's airline tickets. Upon arrival in Port Canaveral, you'll check in for the cruise (expedited if you do the online registration...another thing a travel agent would have reminded you of) and board the Disney Magic. It will be a great cruise experience and I'm sure you all will love it and be back for more!

You have already paid for your transfers. And do take the Disney buses to and from the airport, to the dock. You really need to just pick up the phone and call Disney with some of your questions. Give them your reservation number, and just ask questions. The transfer bus ride is a wonderful experiance, both ways. So far, it seems like you have no clue, but everything will work out. One thing is when you get off the ship at ports of call, don't have another problem with being late getting back on-board. You can save money on your excursions, but unless they are done by the ship, you may end up, watching your boat leave without you, and your family. Less costly excursions are that, they are less costly because they are not up to Disney standards. I'm a 5 timer with DCL, not an agent. E-mail for help! dillonfa@hotmail.com Metrowon

We have taken the buses from the Orlando airport three times and it is a very easy way to go. The first two times we stayed in Hyatt in the airport and the third time we chose a less expensive hotel on the hotel perimeter that had free shuttles to and from the airport. If you stay in the hotel, they collect your bags upstairs right near the breakfast area. If you come from another hotel like we did the last time, you just go to the buses directly in the airport level. Everyone in the airport knows the right level and they will direct you.

Coming back, the buses will take you back to the airport (or to a Disney Resort if you go there after your cruise). They also had a deal with several airlines where they checked your bags straight through from the ship to the airline if I remember correctly. The bag retrieval off the ship is a truly awesome efficient experience-unbelievable given how many people are leaving at the same time.

These buses are the big, airiconditioned coachr buses and are very comfortable. The ride is between 45-60 minutes. They showed scenes from the cruise and ports on the video (and I think they also played a movie, like Ice Age).

Sometimes they show classic Disney cartoons.
