Prinsendam, Dolphin Deck

Does anyone have any experience with cabins on Dolphin deck? Is there noise from the engine?

Stayed in 406 on a recent cruise. It was extremely quiet. Loved it. However, when we would walk to the back of the ship to take the elevator to diner, it was often very noisy there.

Thanks, Fred. Glad to hear your cabin was quiet. Our cabin is 455, which appears to be midship. I wonder how that will be??

We had 440 --no noise at all

Just got off 27 days on Prinsendam in cabin 479. I would prefer to be mid-ship, but closer to the stern than the bow. You are farther from the engines in the bow but you do get the pounding of the waves. The ride is more stable on the center of mass, and since the engines tend to be somewhat aft, just aft of center is usually a great ride.

 

In 479 there was always some engine "hum" but we were not disturbed by it -- it was sort of the heartbeat of the creature we were travelling on. At times when at sea or maneuvering there were some vibrations also but we got to know what was vibrating and were usually able to stop it altogether with a "touch" to the right portion of the offensive object.

 

479 has a plexiglass panel mounted on the bulkhead over the cabin window and we suspect its purpose is to muffle engine noise in that location. We were very happy in our cruise ship home.

 

Do be aware that on the Prinsendam there are some very forward cabins that have port holes instead of windows. In very rough seas the captain orders the port holes covered with metal covers that are locked down and these cabins, effectively, become inside cabins.
