Drinking Age

What is the drinking age on the ship, and in Mexico? We have a few teenagers going with us on a cruise, and wanted to know if they could drink without us knowing it. They are 18.

Cruise ship is 21. Legal drinking age in Mexico is 18. They will be drinking in Mexico:D :mad: :D

What has been said about Mexico is true. My 15 year old ordered a beer in Hooters and they served it to her.

Teens can also (fairly easily) find a way to get booze on the ship, espeically if they are older and hang out with groups that include people old enough to drink.

Every passenger is given a Sail & Sign card. On Carnival ships, anyone under the age of 21 - their card will be flagged to show age. If they try to purchase any alcoholic beverage, including beer, they will not be served.

 

Duck is correct. I think if you can walk in MX, you can be served liquor.:p

My daughter is a sophomore in college and is 19. She is also 4 foot 10 and looks like she is 12. She had no problem getting booze on the ship. The only times they wouldn't serve her was if she tried to use her sign and sail card to pay for it since it came up that she was under age. Other than that no one ever questioned her. In any of the Carribean countries the drinking age is 18 and as in Mexico if you can see over the bar, you are served.

It's about as hard for them to get alcohol on the ship as where you live most likely (perhaps easier). If they want it, they'll get it.

Yeah, I remember when I went to Mexico on a class trip in high school. As soon as the chaperones were out of site my whole group ducked into the nearest bar to drink. Well, except for me, I'm a nerd. :rolleyes:

The "official" age is 21 on CCL - but that's not to say they won't get served. There are free drinks available at the Captains reception. There are opportunities.
