Hotels and Tours Ayers Rock

Anyone know the best place (website, agent, tour company) to book hotels and tours for Ayers Rock/Uluru? Are there any bargains to be had there. We're going in October. So far it all looks so expensive!

Also, what is there "not to be missed". We've booked the Sounds of Silence dinner, anything else?

The best place to go for unbiased info on Uluru (aka Ayers Rock) is the Northern Territory tourism web sites (Uluru is located in the Northern Territory). Try http://www.tourismnt.com.au/ and http://www.travelnt.com/en/. Navigate to http://www.travelnt.com/en/explore/uluru/ for more info on Uluru. Voyages resorts pretty much has a monopoly on resort style accommodation at Uluru (see http://www.ayersrockresort.com.au/) and this is still located a distance from the Rock. Another option is to stay at Alice Springs and fly or coach in from there. Alice Springs has a greater variety of accommodation.

This is expensive but well worth doing. Take a helicopter flight over "The Rock". Try to book it for near suset. The colour change is quite amazing.:)
