Maui whale watch: need to book ahead?

Hi,

 

Leaving soon on the PoAm and wondering whether we need to book in advance for a whale watch cruise in Maui? We were thinking of doing the NCL Lahaina on your own deal, then taking the cruise from Lahaina-- but do we *need* to reserve ahead of time, or can you just show up and walk on? Also, anyone know who NCL uses for the whale watch if we booked it thru them?

About booking ahead, it probably depends on when you are going. Whale season runs through mid May. Some of the busy months may be booked ahead of time. I just booked our tour for May 1 through HawaiiActive.Com.
