maddengod Posted February 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2007 Has anyone ever heard of HAL charging its passengers a $10 per day hotel tax? I had a customer complete a cruise last week and she told me of an additional tax that they are adding to the bill. They explained to her this was a bonus for the other employees on the ship(not the usually people whom you tip Waiters, cabin attendents, matre d,) This was for the laundry people, and other behind the scenes staff. After she complained twice at guest relations the charge was taken off the bill. Has anyone else experienced this charge?
Nitemare Posted February 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2007 That $10 fee is actually probably the tips for the room stewards and waiters, etc, but you can find out for sure on the HAL board here at Cruise Critic, if you're really curious. Some cruiselines "recommend" you tip these folks $10/day, others put it on the bill. If they got it removed and paid them in cash then that's fine. If they got it removed and didn't tip at all then they stiffed the help.
