Viking Category D and E Cabins

I am contemplating using Viking for our next river cruise, but have some concerns about cabin size. We spend very little time in our cabin (e.g., sleeping & reading) and have opted, in the past, for lower cost cabins. The size of Viking's category D and E cabins (120 square feet) raises some concerns. Obviously good design can, to some degree, compensate for size limitations, but a 30 square foot drop from the norm could present a problem.

Any counsel (e.g. personal experience) would be most appreciated.

We had a Cat E last Summer, Holland to Budapest. 12O sq feet is very small. Also basically a port hole vs window. Cat D seems a little better positioned on ship. Only folks on our trip with Cat E cabins were the youngters, early 50's or younger.

Hi Cincy Al,

My wife and I are sailing on the Viking Surkov in Russia this summer in a Cat. E, and we're not early 50's. We are 60, but young at heart. We know the cabin is small, and we're prepared psychologically, I hope. I know the ship won't compare to our last Viking cruise on the Viking Century Sun we sailed on in China last June/July.
