Beware Of The Quest

Recommended Posts

Especially on the Mariner of the Seas!

We recently were on the Mariner of the Seas. Our second time on this ship and about 9 other times on Royal Cariibean ships.

We always enjoyed going to Quest show. (Adult Scavenger Hunt). For the most part they were always funny and little risque. But we still enjoyed them till this past time.

The cruise director, Becky Thompson encouraged a different kind of Quest Routine, which was very offensive, and included having children in the Studio B that were not supposed to be there. They did not enforce the 18 or older rule on this ship.

This Quest was practically a pornographic show, encouraged by Becky and her assistant cruise directors!! They had men, simulating sex on men (each other),they encouraged women to take off there tops, and many did, but one of them was completely topless, and they did nothing to stop her except a few minutes after she performed her routine, which was lap dancing on a man ,nude!!

Men were instructed to hump the floor! And becky encouraged men to take off there pants, but one guy had his on, because he had nothing underneath, but was willing to take it off!.

Anyway, we have always enjoyed the Quest, don't mind pushing the envelope, but this was totally unacceptable, and unbecoming of Royal Caribbean and the Cruise DIrector. We are both younger aged, not older but see this as complete carelessness at who they offend.

We were with a group, who we encouraged to go see this show, only to be horrified by the results!!

Beware on the Mariner!!

Nor should they have, as unless it was specifically written as so in the Cruise Compass or stated prior to the show, the rule does not exist.

"recommended" does not mean it's a rule. just a few years ago every compass would say "The Quest, Rated PG-13"

Well I guess I'm glad I'm booked on the Mariner this September!

If parents are foolish enough to not heed the warnings, then they alone are responsible. I'm looking at my old planner, and it clearly says "The Quest (recommended for adults only)" so that should be one major hint for astute parents. As for the Quest itself, what part of "adult" do you not understand?

Well, I'm an "adult" and MichaelinME, I'm with you....I definitely do NOT want to see men humping the floor or other women naked doing lap dances....sorry but that does border on classless and gross rather than "adult". Give me a break. I played Quest on the Explorer, and sure they had men put on bras and other funny stuff, and we had an absolute blast! However I don't want to go see a late night free for all with a bunch of people's body parts hanging out or simulating sex. I'm not a prude but people's decency, or lack thereof, seems to be getting a bit out of hand. Hopefully it was just that one cruise director that allowed it and it's not the game entirely that's going to the dogs. We had a HILARIOUS time playing it on Explorer, it was probably the highlight of the cruise! Hopefully it will be the same this next time! :)

What cruise were you just on? I am anxious to read others peoples reviews on this. It sounds like they went a little too far and I am sure other people will post about this Quest also.

I am surprised no one else has posted this.

The Cruise Compass, did say that it was restricted to 18 or older not recommended!

Other Quest shows were nowhere near this! It was always a scavenger hunt, finding things, retrivieving to gain points for the teams.

Not somekind of pornogrphic performance shows by Cruise director and assistants! Along with encouraging this behavior to gain points for the teams. Some members of the teams were offended and quit, while others just went along with it? Even Carnival spring breakers were tamer than this!

Are you kidding me. My wife read this to me and my first question are we talking about the same cruise? The answer was/ is yes.

First off, I was part of the game and BELIEVE me, I would notice a topless women. Yes we had to cross dress, but what a riot. If you are not man enough, and be o.k. with yourself, than this is not a sport for you. Even though one of the guys did seem a little to comfortable in womens garment, it was a riot.

By the way, it is billed as an adult show. If you are not old enough, not just in age, or are easily offended don't go. No one made you stay.

Loosen up and enjoy the ride.:)

Well I've gone on the record as saying I've always thought Quest to be a little below sophmoric and once was good enough for me. But that's only my flavor. However I would chirp in here that if even part of what the OP has said is true, I would agree this is beyond what at least I thought the scope of this "entertainment" was. And if you think I'm a prude, you really don't know me at all.

We all lead busy lives, and this was my opportunity to post!

I would not just make this up for any sake. These events happened!

I am being truthful. Who is to blame??

I just wanted people to know, that this may happen on there future cruise.

Be serious.

If this is true. And, we will find out from others who sailed that week when they see this thread, I agree with you 100%. I am far from a prude also, but my Quest days would be over.

Not my kind of entertainment on my cruises. :(

I was on this cruise and this was the first Quest that i diddnt enjoy First i want to clear up something this was not p-g 13 rated this was RRRRRR RATED and my boyfriend was sick at the sight of half nude men lap dancing on other men and humping the floor but when that woman with the nipple rings!!! stripped and began lap danceing on the man the silence that happened told the whole story what was usually fun suddenly became very very uncomfortable!!!! I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT ROYAL CARRIBEAN WILL NOT LET THIS BEHAVIOR CONTINUE

Having family with almost 50 cruises on RCI to account for, Quest has been being changed up lately. Mostly because of the unfair morons that seem to think it necessary to show up with bag fulls of the so called requested items. Now how realistic is that? Especially to someone who has never been or seen? Seens tons of the Quest shows, and although they are resemblant of frat party hysterics and adult in nature, I don't see it being as bad as some are making it out to be. I am quite sure it wasn't a lap dance that was called for, despite what particular people saw it as. And if guys doing the worm is considered banging the floor...then hey...whatever.

Actually Alexis, I have to believe if this happened it must be a unique situation and is not pervasive across all ships. My comment is only directed at this cruise based on the OP's comments and I wouldn't want to think that this happens all the time. You know fun is fun and if it's your flavor fine, but I think, regardless of adult theme or not, there are boundaries that RCI need be careful not to cross. I think we all agree that PG-13 is not R and by no means X.

we sailed Mariner the week after the OP (2/4-2/11) and saw The Quest... there was nothing out of the ordinary for ours... I'm sure it varies slightly by sailing, maybe??

there were children present and I was more appalled by the parents for bringing them but hey, to each his own... don't come crying to me when your Prosti-tot daughter becomes a pop star, shaves her head, and enters re-hab...;)

EXACTLY what I was thinking. On the Splendour, guys were told to do the worm, and I guess someone who is not paying attention or did not hear what the request was might ASSume they were "humping the floor".

I think some of you are missing the point i was on this ship on jan. 22-feb 4th i can only speak for my self usually the quest is pg13 not on this ship . And Becky said there goes my JOB! :)

You boarded on a Monday? In the middle of the Ocean? Interesting that you did not get the date right, the 2 is no where near the 8, and I know I don't EVER forget what my sail date is.

Alot of you are missing the point.

I know what the worm is, and that is not what occured.

Men were in underwear humping the floor, and also undressing and bumping and grinding, (simulating sexual scenes) with other men, especially the one seated!

The women was totally topless, and also doing the same thing to the guy seated.

If it is offensive, then leave, is that your answer?

Do you leave when the ships food is bad?? Do you leave when service is bad?

Get real!

Like i said earlier, hundreds of posts were lost a while ago.

I do not know how? Why should it matter, anyway??

When someone has something to say, it all should weigh evenly, no matter if you have thousands of posts or just 1. We can all disagree, but counting posts to believe someone, is ludicrous!!

Sailed with Becky last year on the Mariner... Quest was HILARIOUS, albeit NOT for children. I think a lot of it has to do with the people that are chosen. Some people are just very bold by nature and don't know where to quit. In our quest, we had some guy that really loved being in his underwear and never put his pants on again for the game. One guy was strutting around int tightie whities and black socks. I think the women were in their bras but thats about it. One guy, when the men were asked to take of their pants, whispered in Becky's ear that he had no underwear on - she told him to leave his pants on.

I would never bring kids to that show..... but I hope that perhaps that was a one time lapse in judgement on Becky's part because I found her to be the best CD I had on any of the cruises I've been on.
