Jet Ski or Parasail at Coco Cay???

Recommended Posts

We did the wave runners. Myself and oldest daughter drove our own and my husband carried my youngest daughter on the back of his. I will put it this way, I was scared out of my whitts and my oldest daughter cried. This tour is very fast paced and driving 50 mph over very rough choppy water is not my idea of fun. Every muscle in my body hurt the entire cruise. Unless you are in great shape and are use to this type of activity at this type of speed, I wouldn't recommend this. The guide wasn't sympothetic and acted like she didn't know why we couldn't keep up. It was all we could do to keep ourselves on the wave runner. My husband, on the other hand, lifts weights and didn't have a problem. Beware!

Do the parasailing, it is fun being able to see the ship and island from the air. We have done the wave runners in Labadee and it was fun, but we have them at our lakehouse and it was only an hour, so it was nothing special to me.

Small world Laura! We are in the Bonsack area. Like I told my husband, I paid $400 for an excursion that beat the He** out of me and scared me half out of my mind. I have read other reviews from people who said they had a great time. I guess if the water was clear and still as glass it wouldn't have been bad but we had 3' seas that day and it as next to impossible to keep up. Another older woman and teenage boy were having the same problem as my 16 year old daughter and I were having. Have fun on your cruise. We are headed to California that same week for the Vision cruise to the Mexican Riveria. :D No wave runners for me there!

Jenny,

That sounds like a wonderful trip as well!! .... then we look at the Parasailing, and you're only in the air for 5-6 minutes for $80 per person, and there's 4 of us... so... is it worth it? Just can't decide... now we're looking at maybe kayaking??

Spring Break all around this area... yours must be at LB? We have one in Salem and one at Glenvar.

Thanks so much for your info.

Laura:)

The only way is to decide for yourself and make the best of it, every will have thier pros and cons of everything here but what bols down to come cruise time is what works better for you during this cruise, if like me and plenty other here, I am sure your 1st will not be your last, whatever you decide for now make up for it on your next cruise, Have a safe trip

Laura...parasailing is a lot of fun. I know it is pricey..but Coco Cay is simply beautiful...and to see the waters around it(the different shades of blue, etc)from the air is just breathtaking...I know it is just 5-6 min (maybe more)...but you are also riding around in the boat while the others are going and everyone gets into it and cheers for each other, etc..It is a lot of fun..Go for it..It makes for a memorable trip..Oh, and book onboard or early. I waited until we were on Coco Cay and it was sold out..only got on because some lady was selling her ticket because apprently she spent too much in the casino the night before..lol :p

I agree.

We did parasailing at Coco-cay last October and we had a great time - although it may have helped that we knew what to expect from reading these boards :)

You go in a boat with quite a few other couples. The boat goes out to sea a little (normally past your cruise ship) and then the couples take turns going up. Whilst you wait, you enjoy the boat FLYING around the bays, the scenery and watching the other couples go up. Yes, you aren't up there for long, but it was an AMAZING experience - you just feel as though you are floating. I am not great with heights, but it didn't really feel as though we were high up: you sort of floated out and then floated back down to the ship again. The only real motion you feel on the parasail is if the boat does a sharp turn (you short of slowly drop a bit, then the line takes up tension again and you zip along again...), but it isn't scarey at all. To me, it is amazing how calm and peaceful it is up on the parasail - a great way to enjoy the island.

People on here will say that there are cheaper and more interesting places to parasail (like Cozumel), but - especially if you haven't parasailed before - to me it was a nice introduction. The parasailing is operated by the cruise ship staff - so I feel quite a lot of security in that. Also, because it only takes about an hour and a half all in, it is quite a nice short excursion which means that you still have plenty of time to enjoy the beach :)

Glad to read about the waver runners - was wondering about that, but am thinking maybe "no" now. Did some snow mobiling a couple of months back and loved that - husband said that wave runners were very similar to drive. I am young and fit, but am worried about falling off (since I need perscription sunglasses or contact lenses in to see). Would probably enjoy it if we could go at our own pace, but don't think that I would enjoy having to go faster than I was comfortable with...

Boo

we have done the waverunners twice now and the water wasnt that rough. Even though its a follow the leader kinda thing it was still pretty cool. If the water is rough, sure it could be bumpy, but as long as you hang on and go fast enough, you should skip accross the top of the bumps/waves. We were lucky and had calm waters where we were flat out most of the time, but I wouldnt give up on this just yet. I would book both and if the waters are too rough, ask for a refund. Its RCI so I dont think you should have a problem getting your money back becuase you were frightened. If its calm youll love it. Remember, the faster you go the smoother it actually is.... have fun

My teen-aged nephew did the wave runners and reported the same thing. He didn't have any problem keeping up; in fact, I believe he rotated between 1st and 2nd position.

But the people bringing up the back were apparently reprimanded pretty harshly due to their inability to keep up. My nephew said that the people were going as fast as they felt comfortable going, and were upset over the way they were talked to.

He also said it was a rough ride...so be prepared if you do this one. But he absolutely loved the excursion and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Happy sailing!

Does anyone know the weight limit and how many people can go up together? My Husband and 2 sons did it in Mexico together, but my son was only 7. Will they let our 2 sons go together, 13 and 9? My husband and I have done it enough that we don't need to do it again.

I heard somewhere on these boards that RC is considering a zipline tour on their private island. Is this being talked about for CocoCay? Thanks!
