CAC104 Posted March 9, 2007 #30 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Look at this video: I read that this ship had disabled engines and that is why it was being tossed around so much.
gotbeer Posted March 9, 2007 #31 Share Posted March 9, 2007 I remember a few years ago we were on carnaval elation and i woke up realy early because the ship was rocking so bad i rolled out of my bed.and we were on deck 3 on an inside cabin. The CD came on the pa and said as you may have noticed they were in a bit of a swell..... Yeah just a bit 9 foot to be exact. this was in Cabo. Lets just say that getting on the tenner was fun. I got it on vidio. Bad thig of it all was there was quite a bit of small clean ups to be done around the ship.not plesant at all.
bankonus Posted March 9, 2007 #32 Share Posted March 9, 2007 I have had one night on a cruise when we were sitting at the dinner table rocking back and forth for about an hour...none of us could finish the meal..the waiters were spilling things. And just about as we finished dinner...the whole thing came to an end...go figure!:)
aqhacruiser Posted March 9, 2007 #33 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Anyone have any pics of a ship listing or a rogue wave? The NCL Dawn was hit by a rogue wave last year. Go over to the thread and ask as someone may have pictures. :) The Princess thread should have pictures of the Crown ( AKA the Tippy Ship ) when she listed last year. :)

sueb Posted March 9, 2007 #40 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Look at this video: I'm not sure when this occurred, but the oldest comment was from 2 to 3 months ago. Someone noted that this ship had lost power so wasn't able to position itself to go 'into' the waves. Really just a sitting duck. Not Fun!

kingsgirl Posted March 9, 2007 #42 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Sorry if this has already been posted: This one is about how the cruise ship started to sink and the captain and his crew took off! And here is one to keep people a little light hearted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuIWeEDSsF4&mode=related&search= You may have to use your imagination a bit ;o)

zackiedawg Posted March 14, 2007 #47 Share Posted March 14, 2007 For those who wondered what goes on INSIDE the ship... Here are some shots from inside the Rotterdam September 26, 2004, when the ship lost engines in 40+ foot seas during Hurricane Karl during its transatlantic crossing from Ireland to Nova Scotia: more... zackiedawg Posted March 14, 2007 #48 Share Posted March 14, 2007 Of course, I can guarantee they're real...my parents took them while onboard! My mother is a veteran of over 110 cruises 7-30 days long...so she's seen her share of rough seas, nasty weather, and ship problems - but this one definately rattled her. The ship was rolling hard enough to roll over pianos, and people sitting on the floor were sliding on their rears from side to side unless they held onto something. Because of the loss of engines in seas that large...the ship was rolling both fore-aft and side-to-side. There were a few minor injuries - but they eventually figured out that the heavy seas caused the oil to slosh, which starved them and stalled them...the ship generators failed shortly thereafter, leaving only emergency lights in stairwells and halls. It was 6 hours before they got engines restored, and were able to face the bow into the waves and head for Nova Scotia...by then, Hurricane Karl had mostly passed over them. Personally, I was onboard the Jubilee in 1993 when it was hit by a microburst off Puerto Vallarta, with 120MPH winds slamming the slabbed starboard side and throwing her over 24 degrees for about 60 seconds, until the captain turned into the winds...it emptied the pool, sent deck chairs by the dozens overboard, dumped all the machines in the casino, emptied the bars onto the floor, and spoiled the nighttime deck party that we were all enjoying when it hit! And just this past November on the Radiance of the Seas, we hit severe weather pulling into Nassau - 20-25 foot seas and 40 knot sustained winds. The captain decided to head for the inlet, which required going side-to-the-wind and cutting through the cross-breaking waves near the inlet. Here was a shot as we were lining up to head in: This was 60 seconds before we listed hard starboard, dumping much of the food and drink from the buffet trays and people's tables in the Windjammer. The captain fought through and straightened her out, and we made it in safe. You can see the Bahamian shoreline taking a beating as we entered the harbor mouth: more... zackiedawg Posted March 14, 2007 #49 Share Posted March 14, 2007 Of course, it was alot better being on a huge cruise ship, especially watching the smaller vessels contend with those seas: Here, a nice 75-ft private yacht motors through the waves at high-speed, trying to get to the harbor quickly:
