careywv Posted March 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2007 My DH and I have booked this cruise, and I've researched to no end. :) There are two pools, and 3 or 4 whirlpools. They do have a casino area that my DH is looking forward to. I haven't seen a room service menu, but I have read that it is available all day. That's all the info I have. ;)
CaptData Posted March 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2007 You can order Room Service from the Dining Room Menus during the times listed. There will be a binder with the Room service menu in it in your roo. You can order via the TV or phone. You can check your account on your TV. Like on HAL the casino is open when not in port. I found that service was good on both lines. RC dose not use the dinner chimes like HAL.
Laurie12820 Posted March 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2007 Looking for info about RC...We are both retired, and have only traveled HAL. How is the food? Food is decent. I have cruised on Empress twice and the first time I found the food to have been better. Room Service menu? There is a list in the room as well as on the tv and you can get anything off of the dining room menu. Pool? There is an adult pool and a kiddie pool and 3 whirlpoolsCasino? Casino is nice, lots of slots and tables.Do they have a program to 'earn' RC money for activities? Only thing you can earn are shipshape dollars for participating in ShipShape Events, they are then redeemed for towels, t-shirts, etc.Choc covered strawberries? Love them! I had a plate waiting for us on our last cruise as it was our honeymoon! Any good info would be greatly app. Thanks Sassy Hope that answers it all. Feel free to ask more! danp Posted March 15, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2007 We have just come off the Empress last Friday, did the eleven day southern,it was great. First of all you cant order room service from your TV,also we couldnt check our bill on tv either. Empress is a small ship. Some of the rooms may be smaller then other ships. As for the two pools one is a baby pool.We did visit the casino a lot and left a lot there lol.One thing about the casino is that it also is small, one crap table, one roulette, one three card poker, one texas hold em($60 to enter),one crib stud, and three BJ. As for clean it was very clean. On our cruise that left SJ on Feb26 we had a lot of Seniors on board so after the show a lot of things were MT. Just a little info I hope I helped a bit. Coralc Posted March 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 15, 2007 Thank you danp, for clarifying that. Empress, Sovereign and Vision class do not have the room service menus or seapass checking on the TV's. I'm sure that will eventually change, but RCTV as I recall is not available on all ships. And the rooms are small. I am also researching the heck out of Empress. :D

The dining room food was great, however the Windjammer.. was no so great, in fact really bad! We had room service on the ship, and every time the food was great. They did have an issue with getting the order to the room in a timely fashion, I just chalked that up to not many liking the Windjammer. :D The pool deck was laid out quite nice, my opinion it is laid out better than any Carnival ship I have been on. The casino was friendly enough to pay off our Sea Pass account. :D :D I cannot comment on the "RC Money", but we did order the Korbel & strawberries to be delivered to the cabin on the third night. ( It came the first night, and we sent it back since we were not prepared for it ) The strawberries were great!!! I hope that helped at least a little. :) -Mike

CHAMPDDS Posted March 16, 2007 #11 Share Posted March 16, 2007 We sailed on the Empress last summer, and it was our first cruise. We are now going on the Mariner this Fall. That being said, I found our room to be comfortable, ocean view only-we booked late, and my understanding is that there are very limited balconies on Empress. BUT, now that I look the rooms available on the Mariner, ie. size, I cannot believe my wife and I felt comfortable in such a tiny room on the Empress. We did find the smaller passenger numbers nice...:D
