Avoiding smoke onboard?

indie

Recommended Posts

not trying to stir up the smoking debate again, but i do have a question ...

how can one best avoid too much contact with cigarette smoke on a carnival ship?

my wife and I both suffer with allergies and sinus problems...and smoky places really get us congested, sore throats, and irritated eyes.

i have dreadlocks (been growing them for 11 years!) and my hair seems to trap cigarette smoke too for days..

i was going to try out a casino for the first time, but ive heard this is the smokiest place on ship?

I would avoid the Casino, Piano Bar, and Cigar Bar to lower your chance of smoke. Good Luck to you- I'm sure you'll have a great time on your cruise and the smoke problem really won't be bad at all :)

If you really want to try the casino, go during the day. Our last cruise I went to the casino during the day while at sea. It was so nice. No crowds. Hardly any cigarette smoke too. I was able to throw away all of my change in any slot machine.

thanks for the tip, ill scope it out during sea days. I just want to give the slot machines a whirl for an hour or two. In and out.

is there smoking in the Comedy shows or karaoke?

I don't know about karaoke, but the Comedy shows are (usually) in the main show lounge, which is no-smoking.

Definitely agree with this suggestion, especially early when the casino first opens and it's virtually deserted. Towards midday onward, it becomes crowded and cloudy ("....smoke gets in... your.... eyes." Apologies to The Platters) :D

I have never actually seen anyone smoking in the cigar bar. In fact DH jokes this is where to go to avoid smoke.

Actually, DH does smoke cigars there. But you can usually be far enough away from smokers that it isn't a big problem. Unless, or course, the band in the cigar bar is really good. ;)

LOL, everytime I have been in, there has been MORE than enough smoking in there! Many times, depending on the ship, that is where we meet after dinner... you have gotten lucky, but it's not the norm, or at least on any cruise I have been on...

Definitely avoid the cigar bar. No offense InMn253, but maybe you are just "used to" your DH's cigar smoking and don't notice the smell like someone who is a non-smoker.

Like everyone else said, avoid the casino in the evenings and you should be fine. I hope it works out for you during the day-time hours. We were on the Liberty in January and the afternoon we boarded the ship and were walking around, we walked by the Casino and could smell the cigarette smell. I think it had permeated the upholstery on the seats. Several people were commenting on how bad it smelled and we hadn't even left port yet!!

Hopefully that was an isolated incident and not the norm.

I really don't think you will have much of a problem. My husband is an ex-smoker (the worst on the planet) and he can smell smoke from miles away. When we were on the Legend last Oct I asked him if he smelled any smoke and he said no. Even in the casino or the sports bar he didn't smell any. He has taken up cigar smoking......go figure  So in the cigar bar it was smoky but other than that area, he didn't smell a thing. So definitely stay away from areas that are smokey, if it bothers you that much.
