QM2 Arrival NYC - Passenger Pics

Shipping Out

Recommended Posts

Thanks for sharing those photos! I cannot believe the one with the waves out the window. I dont know if I could have made it through such a storm. Did the ship rock like crazy? I am sure it faired better than older ships, but it still looks pretty scary to me!

The waves were running 30 feet - though we took one on the bow that was estimated at 70 feet. My picture was shot from the Lions Pub on 2 deck (2 decks above the waterline) and a couple of the waves actually dashed against the window. Commodore Warwick told us that we were in a force ten gale and that the winds were clocked at over 70 mph. The ship pitched and rolled - a lot more at the bow and at the stern. Our cabin was on 6 deck amidship and we experienced considerably less than cabins forward or aft or higher up. The ship weathered the storm well - she did pitch and roll but we weren't seasick. I don't think any other cruise ship afloat could have taken on the storm with as much grace!

Hi Folks,

Just got home half an hour ago. Sorry we didn't meet up but did see your entry in the Cruise Critic Log Book.

I managed to capture one wave covering the pub widows on both still and video. Folks upstairs in the Chartroom at the same time said it broke over their windows as well. Unfortunately the memory card got lost/stolen (we got the camera back minus the memory stick - 150 pictures gone) so I'll try and do an image grab from the video and see how that looks.

Off to unpack now and try to get over the jetlag.

P.S. Did anyone record the Today prog. live from the ship? Or any of the other arrival news footage? I haven't read any of the other post yet so appologies if anyone has already mentioned this.

I got a few pics of the waves too.

I have also loaded some .avi clips on the net for those with a fast connection or patience:-

  • 2 weeks later...
Cool vids. I just got home from the tandem crossing and it was pretty smooth. Thursday night the ship rocked a little, but it was nothing to make headlines. I was hoping to experience what the QM2 was built for, but oh well, had a wonderful crossing anyway. The departure from NY I think is so far, one of the most memorable experiences of my life. It was like opening night at the opera and "we" were the star attraction. Just fantastic!
