Formal Night 4 day Celebration

Well, I guess that could be as our ship leaves Freeport at 7:00 pm. I would assume that everyone would have to be on ship before 7:00 anyway so we would have time to get ready for dinner. Now I have to figure out getting ready for dinner time into our time to be back on the ship and our dinner time. Too much to think about!!!!!

Oh Susan, you are just the person to talk to!!!!! How was it???? This is our second cruise, our first being on our honeymoon 23 years ago!!!!! What did you do in port? How was the food? Did you guys bring any liquor, pop, water or wine on board with you? If so, how did it go? How was the weather. Trying to come up with a packing list. If you don't want to chat thru this site my e-mail is debster818@msn.com. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks

Susan, Could you tell me if there are any beach excursions offered for Freeport on the ships shore excursions on the 4 day cruise. I know you are only there for the afternoon. We are thinking about the Celebration in the fall for a long weekend getaway. We were on the Elation 2 wks ago and had a great time. Thanks.

I just got off Celebration on Monday. The formal night is the Freeport day.

Got any questions???? Just ask and I will be happy to answer all I can.

Susan

I have cruised 6 times - Fantasy (2), Magic, Star Princess, Glory and Miracle. I am going on the Celebration with a group of 7 co-workers August 2. We all work for a school district and thought we would have a last fling before school starts. We chose the Celebration b/c we live in Jacksonville or the surrounding counties. Some of the women have never been on a cruise. I think they will probably like the ship, but I'm wondering, do you think I will be disappointed with it since I have been on several newer ships?

What did you like the best?

Don’t get me wrong the ship is older but she is nice. I did miss having a balcony but we were hardly ever in the room. I went with a group of about 30 people. We left on Thursday, March 29 and returned on Monday, April 2nd. Here is a brief breakdown of our cruise:

Thursday – Got to port around noon. Walked right on the ship. No waiting at all! After finding our cabin we set off to get lunch at the buffet and meet up with some people in our group. Lunch was very good. We explored the ship some and had muster drill. Our muster station was in the Galaxy Z dance club. After muster we walked to the top deck all the way forward of the ship. This is the adults deck. Not sure if this is topless still but all the signs were still up stating that this is the adults only deck. We hung out there for a ling time while sailing under the bridge.

We had the 8:00 dinner in the Horizon dining room. They had 3-10 top tables for our group all together. We just sat where ever we wanted each night. My goal was to have seafood at every dinner and I did. The food was excellent. Some of the best dishes: Mahi Mahi – (The best I have ever had!), Lobster, sweet and sour shrimp, fried seafood trio. You MUST try the Chocolate Melting Cake – as a friend said on the first night…. “How do they get so much yummy in one little bowl!?!?!” It was awesome!

Friday – Freeport. We took 3 vans to the beach for the day. I can’t remember what it was called but it had everything we needed – Beach, restaurant, bar, straw market, casino. The taxi cost $5 each way per person. It was a very nice day. The weather was nice – hot but there was a nice breeze. The water was still a little bit chilly for my liking so I just sat on the beach all day!

Friday night was the formal night. The captains reception was in the Astoria Lounge. Free drinks and appetizers.

Saturday – Nassau. Our travel agent arranged an excursion for all of us. We went to Black Beard Beach (or was it Cay). It was about a 30 minute boat ride. The island had everything you would want – Beautiful beach, volley ball, basketball, kayaks, jet skis, stingrays to feed and swim with, beach chairs, snorkeling… It was a great place. I would recommend it to everyone. We were at the island from 11 – 4:30. When we got back from the island most everyone wanted to go to Atlantis. For $4 each way you could get a taxi to take you. Some friends and I wanted to go visit Anna Nicole’s grave site. We talked to the taxi drivers and they said it would be $25 each way per person. We were told it was about a 20-30 minute driver from the port. No one wanted to pay the $50 so we all went back to the ship.

Sunday – Day at sea. Hung out all day at the pool. We watched the hair chest contest, not so newly wed game… It was very hot this day so we had to keep making Ice Cream runs!!!

Monday – Time to get off the boat! We didn’t have a flight until 6:30 pm so we were able to be some of the last people off the boat.

Overall – Jacksonville is a very nice port. The ship is older but still very nice. The lay out is a little weird with the two dining rooms. To get to the Horizon you have to go to the 9th deck and the walk down to the 8th deck. The crew is very friendly! Loved everyone at the casino – The dealers were very nice.

DH and I sailed on the 4-day Celebration twice last year and will sail on her for the 5-day cruise in May. In between, we cruised on Holland America for a week in December. Loved 'em all! The Celebration is older, but it's neat, clean, has good food, and the crew is very nice. We live less than an hour from Jax, so these cruises have been terrific for shorter getaways and so convenient. The only bad thing about the 4 and 5 day cruises is we feel we want more days :D

I can't help with the Freeport excursions because DH and I just take a cab (they have tons of the large van taxis at the port) to Port Lucaya -- there's shopping, small restaurants, the beach, and the casino. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon. The taxi ride isn't too long, maybe 10-15 minutes.

Have a great cruise ya'll!
