There are 3 of us cruising together this year. The problem is that 2 of us have cruised before. We will get to go to the past guest party. My mom is excited that she will get to go this year. My aunt will not get to go. What should we do? Go or not go? That is the question.

Go or not go? We are talking about cruising, right? :) Sure, I understand about your aunt, but that is a very small portion of the trip, right?

Go ... and enjoy. And then next time your aunt will be able to go to the PGP with you.

Go to the party & have a GREAT time.(if I'm not mistaken, I think it only lasts about an hour. or so)

There is PLENTY for your aunt to do on her own for that short length of time.

Besides...next time she WILL Be Able to Go To the Party.:)

Not knowing the length of your cruise, it may not be a problem. The PG parties are held on cruises of five nights or longer.

The party is only about 45 minutes, and surely your aunt can find something else fun to do while y'all at the party. Then she'll have something to look forward to on her next cruise.

Many times on these boards, folks will say to check w/the purser and see if you can get an extra invitation. Well, all fine and good....except that if everyone did that, what would be the purpose of having a PAST GUEST party? The parties are already overcrowded from folks doing that. Not really fair to the true past guest, y'know?

Tell your aunt y'all will have to book another cruise so you can all enjoy the party together next time!:)

I agree that less than an hour is no big deal for someone to find something else to do. There will be other cruisers who are not at the party and survive just fine. Some posters have made a big stink about taking someone who isn't a past guest, but you know what? That's life. There are always things that not everyone gets to do, why is it such a big deal that someone who doesn't qualify doesn't go? If everyone wanst to bring an additional person they might as well not even have it.

I vote let her find something else to do, at 45mins to an hour she should hardly miss you. Since it must be her fist time I am shure she can look around the ship for that time or do some shopping.

My advice: See how you feel at the time. You may not even want to go when it's all said and done. If you do decide to go, your Aunt will have plenty to do to entertain herself. :) Have fun!
I agree, it's only an hour. Go you earned it;)

Well, it looks like you know the answer now. This could be her time in the shower or getting ready for dinner and have the room all to herself. No matter what she does during that time, the time will pass real fast and I think she would understand and would want ya'll to go. Like everyone else says, she'll receive that same invitation next time. Have fun! Don"t worry too much about your Aunt, she'll be fine.

Who is going to stop her if she accompanies the rest of you?

I'm sure the sweet little auntie wouldn't want to intrude on a party she was not invited to. Also, there is someone at the door taking up invitations, y'know.

She'll be fine by herself for that short time period. (I usually cruise solo, and I always find lots of fun things to do on the ship by myself the entire cruise.):)

I vote park the Aunt at the casino and go have fun at you PGP. Have fun!!

There ya go! Everyone chip in a dollar and sit her at one of the nickel machines! :D She'll probably have a better time than you will. LOL

The past guest party is for you and a guest. Your guest doesn't have to be a past guest. We have sailed many times - being our first on a particular cruiseline - with my parents who have cruised them all and gone as their guests. No biggie.

I see posts like this all the time, and wonder, what's the big deal? It's only for an hour or so, surely the non-past guest can find something to do during that time. If they can't, then don't go. I completely disagree with the thought process of sneaking in or going to the pursers desk - there's already so many past guests that it doesn't feel much different than the captain's party. JMO

I guess things must have changed since the last time I cruised Carnival...

And quite different than the other lines I'm a "past guest" on as well...

Every other time I've went of one of these, "security" was not that big a thing...At WORST, you flash a single invite in front of someone and your whole party walks in...

Are they really being THAT thorough now?

Personally, I've even missed a couple of these myself...I just can't get excited about crowding into the Showroom at some inconvenient 45 minute time frame just to get a couple of free flutes of champagne or bad rum punches...and do what? listen to the orchestra play a little and the captain promote the cruise line?

Gee, with all those people in that one room, it's a good time to go enjoy some other part of the ship...

Were it me, I'd let my aunt go in my place and I'd go do something else...

Yup, they take your invitation at the door, 1 pp. Now that being said it is Carnival so enforcement varies.

I agree with cacruiserjen Take her with you Im a platinum member (single) and whenever I cruise 90 percent of the time the person with me is a first timer just walk in with her they wont say anything.

plus im tired of watching that same damn video anyways. two drinks and im back to the casino!

On Glory, we each had our own invite (DH and I) and they did take them at the door. Why is it so important that someone who isn't invited go? If everyone invited brought someone there wouldn't be room for everyone. They don't hold them in multiple locations like the Captain's party. I think it's very selfish to take someone where they're not invited. For me, the big deal is this is just another example, like sneaking alcohol and ignoring other rules just so someone can do exactly what they want and the h*** with everyone else. It's self-serving and reeks of the rules don't apply to me mentality.

In 2005 I was in the same situation-2 were past cruisers and 1 was not.

The 3rd just waited to get ready for dinner while the other 2 went to the cocktail party.

Nothing to fret over.;)

.

On none of my cruises have I ever seen or heard that the invitation is for "you and a guest". Where did you get that idea?:D

At any rate, it definitely isn't that way now. The guest's name is on the invitation. When taking up invitations at the door to the party, I've heard the cruise director say (with a BIG smile)..."Sorry, but this is for past guests only. You'll be able to go to the PG party on your NEXT cruise."
