Queensland Girl Posted April 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2007 I am from Australia, and have booked on Rhapsody of the Seas for the cruise from Sydney to Singapore, in November. We have a balcony cabin on Deck 7 midship - portside. Is there anythiing I need to know about this ship Any advice would be appreciated. :) :) :)
cb at sea Posted April 27, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2007 It's a great ship--do you have specific concerns?
Queensland Girl Posted April 27, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted April 27, 2007 Would it be best to ask for early dining or late or does this ship have anytime dining - We have travelled on Princess, and do like that you can go to dinner at any time and with whom you ever like.:) :) :)
EastTexans2 Posted April 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2007 Rhapsody was our very first cruise and we fell in love with cruising! She is a beautiful ship and you will have so many things to do. Read your Cruise Compass every night and mark the things that you don't want to miss for the next day. On the first day they usually have a tour for "first time cruisers". Make sure you go because they take you on a walking tour all over the ship.
springtxbill Posted April 27, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2007 They have only the 2 dinner seatings and dinner in the Windjammer. The new Windjammer they added in drydock has a really good stir fry station.:)
vickiw0318 Posted April 27, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2007 Just know that there are many, many Texans crying because the Rhapsody is leaving us. Have a wonderful cruise knowing that all of us wish we were there.
morebeaches Posted April 27, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2007 The Rhapsody went out of Galveston Texas for many years and had a very loyal Texas following. I think it may had the highest return cruiser ratio in RCI. She is a beautiful ship with great service. I don't know if Derek Lewis will be staying as the entertainment in the Schooner Bar when she leaves Texas, but if he does stay, he is a must see! tkportersat Posted April 27, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2007 If you have kids I would say do the early dining, that way they can participate in the evening kids activities. If you don't want to do the "set" dining time every day there is the Windjammer buffet with good food as well. In the dining room you are assigned a table and will sit with the same people the entire cruise. shmthaus Posted April 27, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 27, 2007 She is a wonderful ship and as you can see, has a loyal following. I can't tell you about her new staff, but I bet they won't be as good as when she sailed out of Galveston. We are fortunate enough to go one more time in 2 weeks before she leaves us. There are some very fond memories from our travels. Have fun on Rhapsody and enjoy the sights. We have had both early and late dining and would rather have early. The kids club is excellent. Your balcony is in a great location midship.
Mrsg324 Posted April 27, 2007 #11 Share Posted April 27, 2007 We went on Rhapsody several years ago, then on Splendour in Nov. I can't wait to sail on Rhapsody again in June. I don't want her to leave us.:(

Queensland Girl Posted April 28, 2007 Author #13 Share Posted April 28, 2007 Thanks everyone for writing - I am so excited now you have told me how much you are going to miss Rhapsody of the Seas. Is she coming back to you, when she is finished in Australia. ?????????:) :)
summit Posted April 28, 2007 #14 Share Posted April 28, 2007 The Rhapsody is the first cruise my family and I took about 6 years ago. My husband didn't even want to go, but after being on the ship about 12 hours told me this was the only vacation for him. The Rhapsody is a great ship. It will always hold fun memories for us. We returned to the Rhapsody in 2006. Was just as great an experience as the first time we sailed. Have fun!:)

B J Posted April 28, 2007 #16 Share Posted April 28, 2007 I am a die hard Rhapsody lover..my first cruise(many Texans will say this) and have been on her many times including her last one out of Galveston in September, they will have to throw me off in San Diego!!! Give the crew an big "Howdy Y'all" as you get on and you are sure to get some big grins. B J
lawsoncd3 Posted April 28, 2007 #17 Share Posted April 28, 2007 I love my ship... I'll miss her, although I only was able to sail her once. I guess your first love is forever.... OP: We stayed in 7062 (but I can't remember whether port or starboard)... anyway, the cruise staff is fun, fun, and did I say fun? As you can see from the previous posters, Rhapsody has a loyal following, and all I can say is that once I got on, I knew I was home. You know, that feeling when you come home for Christmas, that's the feeling... I loved the Schooner Bar... very nice and like the neighborhood pub. Rhapsody was a holiday I'll never forget, please take care of her for all of us. Dona :)
ksjserv Posted April 30, 2007 #18 Share Posted April 30, 2007 We've sailed on the Rhapsody many times and just love, love, love the ship. Our next Rhapsody cruise will be in June 2007.....it will be a specail cruise because all of our kids, their spouses and our grandkids will be with us. Our youngest son will be getting married on this cruise. Wedding and reception will take place prior to sailing. We love the Rhapsody, but now that she's leaving Texas we're sad. We do hope she'll be back sometime soon so we Texans can enjoy her once again. YOU WILL LOVE THE RHAPSODY. ENJOY YOUR CRUISE!
MoeGirl Posted May 13, 2007 #19 Share Posted May 13, 2007 My mother and I sailed on Rhapsody of the Seas in September 2003. We sailed again on Rhapsody of the Seas on April 29, 2007! We had a great time! On April 29, 2007 we left Galveston at 7:00 P.M. and we did not go to Ocho Rios as planned so had to change tours on board for Montego Bay. Watch the drink prices that you are not charged twice for drinks or twice for photos. Don't spend too much money in the casino. It did not pay off as much as it did in 2003. I would like to get my husband out there! Happy Cruising!!:)
Nitra Posted May 13, 2007 #20 Share Posted May 13, 2007 I just got off her today and even with a lot of new crew it was still great. I talked to many of the crew still on board, from the old gang, and they are not sailing her out of here. They are moving to other ships when they come back for their next contract. The crew staying on does not want to go to Asia so they are moving in new crew. There are many from China now. I still found everyone to be nice and had no issues. Derek is not going to Asia from what I heard but maybe someone else can find out definately. The ship will be great but it will not be the same experience once she leaves here. The passenger base and the same crew for 5 yrs makes it like going home when you board her. She has had on average 500 repeaters every sailing, from what I heard. She does have the highest return cruiser rate of any ship in the fleet. Many of us will not get a chance to go on her again, unless they bring her back and hopefully if they do that they will get our crew back too! charlsee Posted May 13, 2007 #21 Share Posted May 13, 2007 We only sailed her once, this past April, but will dearly miss her. We had a great cruise, and would sail her again in a heartbeat if she ever comes back to Texas. I have no idea why we waited so long to cruise her, as we are true cruise lovers! I envy you your journey on her.
