ilya12000 Posted August 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2004 After reviewing all the topics about Skagway and consultations we decided to book car in Skagway and go to 75 miles trip according to advice of Budget Queen. But we have one problem - we are Canadian residents (not sitizen yet) and usually Canadian sitizens are not allowed to return to Canada on rental cars (I don't know why). Does it mean, that we can't come to BC from Scagway on the car? Have someone from Canadian tried it? What's about our passports that will be taken from us at embarcation and stored on ship? Any advices? Thank you Ilya
Budget Queen Posted August 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2004 Canadian citizens can not pass into Canada -driving a rental car and will be turned back. Best is to contact Avis directly and inquire about your particular status- are you currently US citizens?? What is the citizenship of your pass port? B J Posted August 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2004 If you can't rent a car why don't you post a request for someone on your cruise that can rent a car, share a car with you? Which ship are you going to be on and when?
ilya12000 Posted August 10, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted August 10, 2004 To BQ: We are sitizens of Israel and permanent residents of Canada. So it is a little tricky situation. We need really to call Avis and ask. Thank you. To BJ: We are going with Norwegian Star on September 12. The problem is that we are 2 families with children and already 6 persons. So in minivan we have only one additional place Best regards, Ilya
boten Posted August 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Do you still have your Israeli passports? If so, just show them at the Canadian border. Getting back to Skagway, you'll need to show the same ID that lets you on the ship, hence into the US. (If Israeli passport then you need a visa)
