Magic vs. Mariner

Recommended Posts

Well, you'll have a Casino, for 1 thing!!! That's always a "plus", IMO!!! Gives you something to do on sea days, when you've been in the sun too long! I think you'll find the service comparable, and will have a great time!

 I have been on the Disney Magic and Im going on the Mariner this August. Im wondering how they compare.

Which things are you looking to compare? Size? Focus? Price? Enjoyment? (that's totally relative) Kids Program?

What are you looking for?

Have done the Magic many, many times and the Mariner twice...you will LOVE the Mariner! It's like apples and oranges to compare them. The Mariner is an entirely different experience; the Royal Promenade is AMAZING, the activities are endless, the ship is beautiful, the crew outstanding.

That's not to say the Magic is not a great ship too, she is, but MUCH smaller than the Mariner, and of course, very Disney-oriented (that's not a bad thing!). I just find that EVERYONE in our family, kids, teens, adults...all find SO much more to do and enjoy on the Mariner.

You will have an awesome cruise on the Mariner (and keep checking the pricing, it very well may go DOWN if you are cruising later in August, depending upon when you booked...RCCL will credit back the difference if it does, IF you or your TA ask them...and overall you'll no doubt spend WAY less than you did on the Magic cruise.)

Enjoy! :D

IMHO, you'll be SO much happier on the Mariner! We've done the Magic once and the Mariner 3 times, even considering going back for a 4th.

That all depends on how much of a 'Disney fanatic' one is. (Ahem.)

That said (our family DOES love RCCL Voyager class, don't get me wrong) just cover your ears when you hear DCL's horn, so you won't cry. (As our family almost did.) LOL!

We have cruised Magic once and Mariner twice. We find it difficult to compare the two because they are completely different experiences. We do prefer the level of service on Disney - that's what Disney does best. We also prefered the food on Disney. Mariner shines on its variety of activities - something for everyone. And, it is far cheaper than Disney.

They are both good experiences, but don't be surprised if you have difficulty comparing the two. Like a previous post stated, apples vs. oranges.

We are going on the Mariner 11/25/07, our first since sailing The Magic last Sep. and the Wonder before that. We are very excited due to the sheer size of the Mariner, and all she has to offer. The thing we'll miss the most are the Disney themed Shows... They always bring a tear to your eye... "When you wish upon a star... "

Exactly what Ella said :).

Husband and I currently have no kids and are in our early/mid 30s. Did our first cruise on the Magic and it was great, but our cruise on the Mariner was even more amazing. Would do Disney again (when we have kids old enough to appreciate it), but for now the more adult focus of the Mariner suits us more than the Disney cruises.

Sorry, I don't think it really does. We're HUGE Disney fans, but just found a better overall cruising experience on Mariner. Not to say there aren't things about the Magic that I liked better, but for the overall experience we prefer the Mariner.

Of course we don't start any sailing on the Mariner without having first spent time at Disney World.

LOL :) That's how I am going to get my Disney fix -- and I really went out of my way to get it. We were booked on the Freedom of the Seas for Thanksgiving 08. We needed some time to save up from our last Disney vacation and cruise. Then I saw that the Mariner was $1000 cheaper THIS Thanksgiving for the Western trip. Then, I started getting greedy -- the week before Christmas break was even $700 less than that! AND sailing out of Port Canaveral, we can stop by Disney on Sat. before we leave. Hurray!!! It is really a great deal if anyone with boys 9 and 13 would like to join us :o They could use some friends. We booked connecting Promenade rooms for $753 + tax each!
