rritter6 Posted May 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2007 I will be in Fairbanks for a day alone while my companions are travelling to the Arctic Circle. Can anyone suggest options for a single person that they might enjoy? Is it best just to call for taxis to get around for the day? Or do some of the tour companies (Grayline, etc.) pick up from hotels or various places around town? The goldmine tours sound fun, but the riverboat cruise a little tame. Thanks for any input. F19810 Posted May 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2007 When I was in Fairbanks, I went to the univeristy museum for a couple of hours. I then went to the musk ox farm. I beleive that I was staying at the Westmark (HAL cruisetour hotel) and they had a van to take me to both places. Judy
Budget Queen Posted May 29, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2007 The Fairbanks U, does have a very nice museum and if up to it- you can take the long WALK to the large animal research farm, through the campus. Be prepared for high cab costs, historically - I've been there several times with people complaining about the fees. I would also suggest Pioneer Park- if an interest in "old" Fairbanks. You can spend a lot of time walking around and reading the plaques on the transplanted buildings. Or go downtown, the Public Lands building is very interesting, especially if they are showing the Northern Lights movie. Ice Museum is interesting. The visitor center can also offer tour suggestions if you want to go organized.
