mueller74us Posted May 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2007 For those who have done anything concerning Emerald Poll and/or Trafalgar Falls would you recommend wearing water shoes for the excursion of do you think flip flops would do?? Thanks, Jennifer
cinnam0n Posted May 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2007 If you are going to hike to Trafalgar Falls, you need footwear that will let you walk on VERY steep, slippery rocks securely. Different shoes are best for different people, but make sure you have some traction.
pch Posted June 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2007 i would certainly wear some sort of "tennis shoe" to walk in, you might want to carry your water shoes in a string backpack or something.
pholter Posted June 2, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 2, 2007 We used the Water Shoes and definitely needed them on the slippery rocks, etc. I would personally say, NO on the flip flops..

Stillfloatin' Posted June 6, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 6, 2007 Tevas worked great for us. Good traction and good support. Plus, we could get them wet.

letmetellya Posted June 7, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2007 I just got Crocs (maryjane style) hoping they are good for hiking i dominica , we are going on the tour with Levi. any advise on the crocs?
Stillfloatin' Posted June 7, 2007 #9 Share Posted June 7, 2007 Call me stupid, but what are Tevas?? They are very hardy hiking/river crossing/sailing sandals. Adjustable 2-3 ways, depending on which style you buy. They're perfect because you can get them wet but they are meant for climbing on wet rocks, etc. so they're very safe. They also provide really good foot support. I also really like Ecco sandals that are the same but with a little more arch support. Also, pretty cute too. I always take them with me on my trips. They work great for gardening, etc. too.
dc-snoopy Posted June 7, 2007 #10 Share Posted June 7, 2007 Call me stupid, but what are Tevas?? Tevas are a brand name of shoe. Although they have several different styles, most people call the casual or sport sandals "Tevas". For pictures, you can go to http://www.teva.com. Look at the sport sandal for what most people will think of when they say "Tevas".
pholter Posted June 7, 2007 #11 Share Posted June 7, 2007 Thanks guys for clearing that up for me :) Yep, they definitely look like they'd do the trick traction wise...
Stillfloatin' Posted June 11, 2007 #12 Share Posted June 11, 2007 Glad we could help. I can't imagine any cruise without my trusty Tevas - I'm sure they've kept me from many a mishap! :D
Rare mexicobob Posted July 21, 2007 #13 Share Posted July 21, 2007 I just got Crocs (maryjane style) hoping they are good for hiking i dominica , we are going on the tour with Levi. any advise on the crocs? I wore Crocs on our recent visit to Dominica, including hiking on wet rocks, etc. They worked great. To be honest I was surprised at how easy it was to walk in them on the different types of terrain. We took a private tour with Levi and greatly enjoyed it. MexicoBob
Sugar*Magnolia Posted July 27, 2007 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Tevas or teva-type sport sandals for sure!!! I bought us each a pair the first time we went to Ochoi Rios and planned on climbing the falls! They're PERFECT!! We also wear them to go tubing down the Delaware! They are great for slippery & rocky terrain. The regular common-type of swim-type shoes that have the fabric do not have traction, we've seen people go down wearing them on slippery inclines! Go for the sport shoes you wont regret it!
CruiseQueen13 Posted August 16, 2007 #15 Share Posted August 16, 2007 We did water shoes - our feet were killing us. We saw many sites - lots of climbing, rocks, etc. NOT GOOD - not much arch support. We got home and ordered the land's end water shoe - bottom is like a sneaker - excellent - highly recommend and on sale now!
bermuda triangle Posted August 26, 2007 #16 Share Posted August 26, 2007 I just wanted to tell you about the shoes we used in Hawaii for rocky, slippery terrain. They are called Keens, similar to a tennis shoe/sneaker except they are breathable, waterproof and come in many styles. http://www.keenfootwear.com/flash_required.aspx They are sold all over Sports Authority, Dick's, zappos.com. They are comfy and adjustable. We will be wearing them in port here for sure. Laura

madelinerose Posted August 31, 2007 #19 Share Posted August 31, 2007 They are great aren't they!?!?:D Wear them every day to the dog park where there's a huge lake that the dogs love. When I rinse off the dog with the hose as we're leaving, I rinse off my Keens also. They're light as a feather with great ball of the foot support. I think my favs are the Bali slip ons. I wore them to every beach on our last cruise. Happy Keens - lol! ;)
