Mccarri Posted May 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2007 Hi Guys Our TA has recommended we take the Princess scenic train from Whittier to ANC. Does anyone know at what time this leaves Whittier and arrives in ANC? Is it worth the USD80 each? As our flight from ANC is VERY late, we can take our time getting there. If we decide to arrange our own transfer from Whittier to ANC, what is the latest time we can disemberk the Island Princess and what is the latest time an operator will take us from Whittier to ANC airport? Also, how easy is it go get from ANC station to the airport or do Princess include this with the scenic train? Cheers I + F
Emeraldtx Posted May 31, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2007 The train runs very early... not sure what time it leaves, but we were told it gets into Egan center about 9:30 am. Might not be your best bet if you have all day... one of the 'tours' that takes more time & has stops along the route there might be more fun. It's perfect for us, because we're picking up a rental car in Anchorage & heading out to Denali, so early is good. Thought the train would be fun too! Backtracking later in the week, and taking the car down to Seward, so will have time to do the route at our leisure from a different perspective. I want to go NOWWWWWW. :D
Budget Queen Posted May 31, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2007 There is NO difference in the scenery between the train and bus. With the bus being cheaper and the ability to choose your side drivers from Whittier. Train seats assigned- the bus may be a better use of time. They leave all day long, and get you to Anchorage an hour faster. With the above reference of the "train" to Egan Center, even more time since they have to bus you there. Could walk up hill without luggage. :) With a late flight, you can also take the regular run of the Alaska RR for $58pp. This would allow you to take a spectacular scenic boat tour of Prince William Sound if of interest. ARRTrain Posted May 31, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2007 Everyone is usually off the ship by 10am. The tunnel is open at the top of the hour for leaving Whittier, last tunnel out is at 11pm.
