Steamboatin Posted June 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2007 Currently have an option to select a hump cabin either at the front of the vessel with the hump facing aft or a hump cabin towards the aft facing forward. Did a search but this was never addressed in posts. Question: Which is best? Concern is the wind. Seems a forward facing hump cabin would have more wind, but naturally a better view. Appreciate learning from your experience when you cruised in a hump cabin. So, which is best a forward looking hump or an aft looking hump and why? flamomo Posted June 2, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2007 I would go for the rear facing cabin, primarily because of the wind issue. Consider that when the ship is in the open ocean and cruising along at 22-25 knots, that would mean that you would have constant winds of 25-27 MPH, and that is withour adding on the effect of any other wind that Mother Nature might provide. Constant winds of 25-27 MPH could reduce your use of your balcony to mostly when you are approaching port when the ship is moving more slowly, or when you are in port. Other may disagree because they are more concerned about the view. But we use our balcony on a daily basis, and would not consider a forward facing hump balcony. Also, in the configuration of an aft facing balcony, remember that part of the railing is parallel to the length of the ship, so all of the view would not be aft facing. Krazy Kruizers Posted June 2, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2007 I also vote for the cabin facing the rear.

Steamboatin Posted June 2, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted June 2, 2007 A hump cabin can be seen if you go to the below web site that specializes in the deck plans of the various cruise vessels. http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/Main/home1.php Once at the web site select Holland America Line, select the Westerdam vessel, and select one of the upper cabin decks. You will see how the ship outline "bows in" towards the front and "bows out" towards the aft. The cabins that are located at the point of the "bow in" or "bow out" are considered hump cabins. The variations vary by cruise line and by vessel but when the ship changes configurations from a straight line than that cabin which is at the turn in or out with the larger balcony is the hump cabin. mithryl Posted June 3, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 3, 2007 I agree on Aft...too much wind on the Bow.
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted June 3, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 3, 2007 I agree on choosing the aft "hump" cabin primarily because of wind issues. There will still be plenty of wind in certain weather conditions. The view is still pretty great even in an aft position. The forward cabins see the view first, but you will see it soon enough. I would think the best "hump" cabin is the one that is dead center, but haven't had the pleasure of knowing first hand. I have had aft 'hump" cabins and have booked them for our next two cruises.
