Sorry to ask for those who hate smokers....but, what are the rules/restrictions for smoking on cruise ships... In cabins and around the ship. All cruise lines would be appreciated.. Thanks

I can only tell you abount Carnival. Smoking is allowed in your cabin, on your balcony, one side on the outside decks, casino, bars

NO SMOKING in food venues, show lounge, hallways, elevators

Pretty much the same on RCCL.

:) I don't hate smokers, just their smoke.

Just pay attention to the non-smoking signs. The smoking sections will be fairly obvious as there will be ashtrays in that particular area. No ashtrays?, maybe it's a non-smoking area.

Thank you for being considerate.

You would be most limited on Oceana. No smoking on balconies or rooms. (YAY! Don't have to put up with smoke from our neighbor's balcony. ) Only a Small outside area for smoking. Serious smokers should not even think about Oceana as they enforce the rules strictly.

Please, just follow the "rules" and signs. I have nothing against people smoking (their choice) ....just the people smoking in non smoking areas. We non smokers have rights too. :)

ok, of course this is a subject that will continue to surface every month or so and everyone will put thier 2 cents worth in:

First of all let me say I am a smoker, but only when gambling or with other smokers. Other than gambling I smoke a pack every week or two, you can put me into whatever catagory you want.

For those who say, bring an room freshener, that isn't necessary. When the smoker exits the cabin it is cleaned and only once did we have a problem. It was on HAL last fall. For some reason the smoke was still apparent when we entered our cabin, but only for the first couple of minutes.

Other than a few lines like Oceania most lines have similar smoking rules: Cabins, balconies, a few bars (only certain areas of the bar) the casinos, but some lines are starting to have non smoking nights in the casinos as well and smoking on one side of the ship. None allow smoking in show rooms, dining rooms, hallways, etc.

Smokers should have no problems finding a place to light up and non smokers should have no problem escaping the smoke; all can get along fine, regardless of your preferance. NMnita

As stated in the Carnival Capers for the Carnival Conquest:

"Smoking Areas

Guests are welcome to smoke in the following areas: Tahiti Casino, Lido Dk - Starboard Side, Vincent's Latour Wine Bar, Blue's Bar and Henry's Disco . . ."

Smoking on the starboard side has been allowed on every Carnival ship we have been on. We are nonsmokers so we tend to stay on the port side.

The OP asked a legitmate question. I don't think posting that elevators REEK of smoke has anything to do with the question.

Please be considerate.

It was either the Holiday or Sensation......port side. Not to argue, but that's the way it was.:)

Cotton is correct. I have seen it port and starboard on various Carnival ships.

The Capers lists all designated smoking areas every day! These areas do not change, they simply list it every day as a reminder.

Also outside on the Lido, there is usually a no smoking sign down one side of the walls...which means the other side is smoking!

Also, if you do not see ashtrays....then check the other side.

Have a great cruise.

I can't keep track of whether you can or not on port or starboard side. As I am not the brightest star in the sky, if I see an ashtray, that's the side I can smoke on.

Exactly, it varies from ship to ship, and this includes all cruise lines -- just look for the signs :)
